Powertrain warranty

Just throwing this out to get more exposure. The question is what is exactly covered under the powertrain warranty and how will all of the modifications everyone is talking about getting affect that warranty?

You'll need a legal degree to fully answer the question - the 2010 Chevrolet warranty book is 44 pages. See the attached for 3 of them, including "after market performance". And of course there are sections for Federal Emissions coverage, California Emissions, etc. Interesting the 2010 Warranty booklet shows as NOT covered are Sensors, wiring, connectors, coolant hoses, coolant and heater core.
Damage by "performance enhancement products" may not be covered. MAY not is pretty open!

Damn ... look at the section on aftermarket rustproofing ... it could actually void the warranty. Thanks for posting that.

rust proofing is not a good idea anymore. Powertrain should be engine and tranny. And will cover it till 5 years/100,000mi. From looking at that confirms mods will void the warranty, unless you get a dealer installed option. I want to get a charger but Im going to wait till the 5 years are up

I'm pretty sure that in order to void your warranty for aftermarket mods they have to prove that the modification that you made to the vehicle was directly related to whatever failed.

For example -

If your trans goes out, and they want to void your warranty they have to prove that the headers, cat-back, and CAI that you installed are directly related to the failure. If its the electronics in the trans that fail, theres no chance they can void it - if a gear broke, they might be able to void it but would still have to prove that the mods you made caused the engine to make more HP/TQ than the trans is rated for and thats what caused the gear to fail.

The key is "may" void your warranty. Even if they do determine that your mod caused the trans to fail, the rest of the warranty remains intact - they only void the warranty on the trans - not the whole thing.

Now if you put a 150 shot of nitrous on your car and blow the engine, - you're just SOL
