Replacement Parts
This might sound silly but I have to ask?
I have an appointment tomorrow at my dealership to find out what is wrong with either my fuel gauge or fuel sensor. When I picked her up on Saturday the gauge was reading empty after I filled her up. I talked it over with the dealer and they couldn't get me in until tomorrow to look at it I was rather upset but they said it should be fine to drive. So over the past couple of days of driving I have kept an eye on it and it reads empty then full, then gives me what should be a correct reading and then full a couple minutes later. I am hoping this is the sensor as I don't like the idea of them taking apart my interior to replace the gauge if that is it. So my question is being I would prefer to be there to watch them work on her, if I hold off until Saturday and GM goes bankrupt will there be a problem getting parts? I am trying to figure out which is best just let them look her over tomorrow or wait till Saturday. Last edited by Tecca; 06-11-2009 at 01:35 PM. |

Your gonna have to trust them. Take pics and walk over the car with your service person so that if dents show up later you can have something.
They will have a checklist in the service manual to look to determine what is wrong. |

dude check the other threads. And most parts in this car are in other cars already, they didnt make every part for this thing brand new. Most cars in the GM fleet share thee same parts. it would cost to much to have a different oil filter, fuel filter for every single car.

V6 - It just isn't normal

Most likely a defective sending unit in the tank. The sending unit is nothing more that a rheostat in the tank attached to a float. It just varies the resistance.

Yea they will probably have to drop the tank and take a look and swap that unit out.

It first it just read empty, then a couple times it read full, today it was reading just fine at a half a tank then it slowly crept to a full tank in about 10-15 minutes. |

Too...
If GM files BK, they won't stop making this car or parts for it (a lot of the parts are from outside suppliers anyway) Why does everyone think if GM files BK they will cease to exist? If the meter is bouncing around like that, it's probably a bad connection some where. But as others mentioned may be a bad level meter.

take it in.................ask to be present if ya like. what's going to happen, is if its not a simple loose connection and is determined to be the sensor or gauge............they will have to order it.
that will take time to get and you will simply have to keep her full until they can get her back in to fix it!

Took it in, turn out the fuel sensor is bad. Although they are saying that that particular part is not in the system yet and will take 1-2 weeks to get one.

Took it in friday to get the sensor replaced as they did, worked fine through the weekend and it crapped out again this morning, gas gauge is reading empty. No check engine light though.
Very frustrating, anyone have any suggestions?? I made a new appointment for next week as I had to drop the car off at the paint shop this morning to get the stripes painted. |

Rolling along...

If it is an intermittent problem even after replacing the fuel sensor, they should start by looking at the connections on the wiring between the sensor and the gauge.

Definitely sounds like a connection issue. Especially if it stays on 1 setting, then goes to the correct one.
