The shocks are easy.

Street or track kit full install is going to take about 10+ hours. There are a LOT of parts in those kits... and they are worth installing!

Do you have a specific kit in mind? There are a couple of Pedders Shops in the Chicago (Oswego & Waukegan) area that can handle the installation and run a quote for you. DIY times will be different based on experience.

Ok - I'm from Texas, anything within 150 miles or 2 hours is "in the area".

Xa's alone take about 5 hours to install, if you were talking about one of the kits that has the Xa's along with some of the bushings that would be a bit longer.

What is your purpose for getting these; to just lower the car or do you plan on performance driving or both?

If you just want to lower the car and maintain suspension capability then make it a weekend project and do it yourself if you have the tools and are a reasonably capable DIYer.

If you want to also do performance driving then I'd highly recommend you get one of the Pedders kits that also include the bushings and have whichever dealer they recommend that's close to you, do the install and setup. WITH a lift and all their equipment and experience it's going to take them all day. But it will be done right, setup right, and they'll do an alignment to make sure everything works right.

The bushings combined with the coilovers makes a night and day difference in the way the car handles and performs. It might add 30% to the cost including installation and everything but it is SUCH a worthwhile upgrade.

My install actually took a marathon 17 hours, but it was about everything you can replace on a Camaro's supension. I would say to get in touch with a good dealer and go over exactly what you want out of your car and go from there. They can also help you prioritize your mods to get the most bang for your buck, and not waste money.

Thanks for all the reply's,The main purpose for getting these coilovers
installed is to lower the car and have the best ride quality i can.

When i spoke with pedders they told me the book time was 4 hours.
The shop im dealing with is telling me 6 hours.plus more $$ for a
Alignment kit and Alignment. So i just wanted some second opinions.

Thanks
Bill

If you're doing JUST coilovers, you could do that yourself if you're at all handy with tools but figure on it being most of the day unless you have an air wrench to speed things up. With taking breaks, food, etc. you can figure it being a Saturday or Sunday project. If you can afford to have a Pedders dealer do it... that's not a bad way to go cause it makes it a whole lot easier on you. Depends on whether you enjoy doing these kinds of things yourself or not.

An alignment is a good idea afterwards once it's lowered properly the way you want it. Start with 10 clicks as a starting point for the firmness of the coilovers and go from there; 10 is actually pretty good for the street. Going more is going to make the ride stiffer; less will be softer.

Just installing the coilovers is about four hours, I would guess the extra time might be the alignment, check with them to verify. I would strongly recommend the alignment, as when you change hieght you are also changing the toe. Without the alignment you will eat up your tires pretty quick. Just imagine your tires travel on an arc, if you move the nutral point of your tire instead of sitting flat your tire is leaning out, the inside will wear out, remember these stock tires are pretty soft to start out with.

As a general rule of thumb it is about an hour a corner, plus with coilovers around 30 minutes to an hour to set the ride height.

Regards
