Spare tire and locking lug nuts

Hi all,
Brand new here and will be getting a new SS in Feb. I currently have my beloved Grand Prix GXP which will be staying in the family. I, plus many others with the GXP had to get a spare tire for our cars being there was only a cheap air pump and no spare equipped. Seems to be the same situation with the Camaro. Locking lug nuts was also another issue. I know it's rather early for this question but has anyone looked into this yet ? Thanks.

I ordered the gorilla locking lug nuts and put 1 on each wheel. This car does not come with a spare because there would be no trunk room if it did and thus you will have that cheap air pump and fix a flat set up. You can order a spare, but like I said, you will take up all of your trunk space.

Thanks for that info. My GXP had room for a doughnut off of a Bonneville GXP and it fit into the wheel-well. I take it the SS trunk is smaller and has no spot under the trunk panel - bummer.

Yeah, they figured the goo, air pump, and onstar would substitute... since they had no choice. The spot under the trunk panel isn't big enough for a full size wheel, and you have to have a full size wheel to fit over the brembo breaks.

I need to get some locking lugs too, thx for the advice.

From what I know there is no option of having a spare for the SS. Mainly because it would not be able to fit over the brakes while still being able to fit in the trunk.

You can get a spare for the V6, but that's about it.

Roger, the battery is located in the trunk under the floor mat and thus takes up all room under neath the trunk, and yes the trunk is somewhat small and there is no way you would be able to store much of anything in the trunk if you place the spare there. The good news is, that in the first 5 years all you have to do is call the GM phone # and they will send someone out to fix or repair you tire in need be.

BTW, I think showtime is right on the no spare option for the 20" wheels. Not sure if it is just the SS, but probably the 20" -21" Wheels.

Thank you very much for that advice. I guess that will have to do. I've just been very independent with tire changing in the past but I'm not getting any younger so maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

It's the breaks... and yes, i believe they only come on the SS... big engine need big breaks!

Edit: Excellent breaks, by the way. I don't care if i sacrifice my spare and they squeek some... music to my ears when they can stop this 3900+ lbs. monster on a dime!

Absolutely agree. I love the brakes. Squeaking doesn't bother me because with the newer pads almost every car I've had for a while the brakes have squeaked to some extent.
