Charging pad upgrade works perfect! iPhone X charging in 2017
For anyone interested - i posted a message a couple weeks ago about installing the updated charging pad in our 2016s and 2017s.
The part is 84526978, it is a direct replacement part, that fits perfectly in my 2017. A harness adapter is needed, but it is included with the part. To install: remove center console and shift knob (4 10mm bolts up front behind knee pads, 2 10mm bolts behind covers located low in the back seat area, need to move seats all the way forward to get to them) I did not even have to remove the console, I just sat in the back and lifted it up from there. 4 torx head screws hold the pad in. GET IT, works perfect!

Install was so easy too, literally took 20 minutes, and I took my time.
When removing the knee pads, use a trim tool at the bottom of the pad, they lift straight up. The shift knob is just pushed on, no screws holding it on, just lift straight up. I did not remove the boot from the knob. The console does not need to be removed, I just got it all loose and lifted from the back. super easy!

Any pictures of the upgraded setup? Seems like a cheap, reasonable upgrade.

Is the X really small enough to fit in the charger spot? Regardless of charger my note 8 isn't fitting in the spot.

iphone x lays flat without the case. I have an otterbox symmetry case that does not let it sit perfectly flat, but it still charges like this, even with case on

obviously this is for the people who dont plug in for android auto or carplay. So this is not a feature i could utilize so I haven't.
But my suggestion for those who do find this as a useful feature, to get off the idea of making this charging pad horizontal to fit inside the tiny length and width of the cubby area. You can charge while the phone is vertical or learning on an angle. This gives you much more flexibility in phone sizes without really impacting convenience (it's almost definitely more convenient than laying flat). I made a vertical pocket out of some fiberglass for my phone. Adding wireless charging to the pocket would be trivial. Then it would fit any phone without risking it falling out. |
