I am not sure how you get a big cube big power V8 through the rigors of EPA. If the LT4 goes into a ZL1, would they try turbo charging the LT4 to create a Z/28 worthy deviant? Would that be cost effective, minimize the validation requirements? My educated guess is no. They would have to go through a full validation process including emissions.

The C8 is around the corner. Could a new C8 engine end up in a 6Gen Z/28 first?

The 1LE is amazing. My brother is considering the V6 1LE.

I think a worked over LT1 is the most likely Z/28 engine, if they stick to an n/a motor. Bump compression, hotter cam with no AFM, CNC ported heads and spin it a to 7,100 rpm.

What c/r is feasible for a pump gas DI engine? 12.0-1 or 12.5-1? The Voodoo is 12.0-1 and it's not DI.

I love having salient opinions to read here. Been missing you guys.

When do you think we'll hear a time & place for the official ZL1 stats?

If the numbers on the side of the test car are real, we should see it at New York next month. Probably get the 1LE and ZL1 performance numbers closer to summer.

Well there is a 4.2 L TT V8 supposedly coming for the CT6, but Cadillac has also recently stated that there will be exclusivity in powertrains in the future for Cadillac.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...twin-turbo-v8/

http://www.leftlanenews.com/cadillac...-v8-90807.html

This engine could easily be in the mid 500s based on the 3.0 TT V6 making 400 and the 3.6L TT making 460.

But it doesn't mean there won't be variants of the engine to share tooling and development. Who knows.

But that report would also indicate that GM is, as usual, constantly working on stuff we aren't going to be privy to. And putting an all new engine in a car becomes pretty tough to see in spy photos.

But I don't see GM going smaller displacement yet making more HP unless there is Turbo or Super Charging in the mix.

But GM could surprise us.

But the Z/28 only needs to be the fastest on the track. So what if the Z/28 wins by losing some major pounds compared to the 1LE? Yes, that would be premium materials, but imagine an LT1 or LF4 powered car that weighed under 3,300 pounds and had CC brakes. That might be something pretty special, no?

Interesting. I was quite surprised to see that the GT350R's wheels save as much time as they do. Might GM go with CCB's & CF wheels on the next Z/28?

Except that CCB and CF wheels would add $20k to the price, and we've seen how well a $75k Camaro sells. Hell, GM didn't even put CCB's on the new $85k CTS-V, partially due to cost.

Carbon brakes are only a $5,000 option. Not sure about CF wheels though.

But I do hope they find a way to improve performance of the Z/28 and get that price down.

What kind of power would an LTx along the lines of the LS6 be capable of? If they can hit 500+ hp and 480+ tq, along with weight reduction, that could make a potent Z/28.

I actually ran that pic through a photoshop detector and there was no indication that it had been 'shopped.

Yeah, I figured the car actually had those numbers. It showed up multiple times and would have been a lot of work for a prank.
