Had my new 3.91's for a bit...got 500 miles on em and changed gear oil. Did a little driving and a few figure 8's. When doing this they got a lot of groan. Is this typical of new gears?

No..when I had my gears done I drove right to the drag strip. Zero noise. Did have some sound late last year that sounded like rubbing. Changed the gear oil and now no noise. Something is not right.

My Yukon 3.90 gears scream at me!!! I also have heavy duty diff cover and poly bushings.

Are you sure your gear oil is right for Limited Slip? The groaning during figure 8's would indicate a problem there more than the gear change.

Still have the stock LSD in it?

If its only groaning on the turns, needs more friction modifier. I know on my stock diff, when I changed my gear oil out, I used some Royal Purple that had the friction modifier already in it. I still had to add more friction modifier to the Royal Purple because had the LSD groaning on tight turns.

My new Yukon 4.11 make noise, but I expected to hear some noise. Only rubber bushings I have left in the rear end and suspension are on the stock driveshaft.

I just had these done by reputable shop. They build em in house and have an exchange thing like JRE. I followed their directions and recommended gear lube (Valvoline). So, yeah, gears are new (AAM 3.91) but I don't know what else is in there or done. Yes, it's a stock carrier (just not my original). And I have all BMR bushings. Yes, I knew and expected noise. They always made a little on hard turns with OEM 3.45's. Used synthetic 75w90 gear lube....like I always have. Just wondering if a little extra noise was common for a brand new gear set.

Dont know why you guys are thinking noise is ok. Like I said my 391s made zero noise for 3 years...none. Last fall when I turned sharp it sounded like a tire rubbing. Changed out the diff oil with the proper with the modifier and now nothing.

Well thats weird because the suspension shop that did mine told me there wont be any noise....and I guess since its been 3 years they must have been mistaken. Like you they did a swap with my tuners shop with my diff for theirs with the 391s installed. If your 345 s made noise then you may have other issues.

Any chance you picked up the wrong Valvoline? Some of it has the LS additive, some doesn't.

Thanks for your input, folks. Got it fixed. Went with my intuition and did things the way I always do it. Got rid of the crap synthetic stuff and replaced with Valvoline conventional 75w90. Nice n quiet now.
