2011 2SS/RS HUD (Idiotic GM Programming) - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have a real issue with the 2011 HUD, that when it is set to the mode that displays the Tach and Speed it takes order from the radio, blanking the tach and displaying the radio info when there is a change, an ad or whatever.

The vehicle is a day old and was driving the gears one through six shifting at 4000 RPM when the XM station changed from programming to advertising and thats what my windshield said! Great to miss a shift for an important message from the "Hair Club for Men"

Who is the Idiot at GM that thought this up and the bigger idiot that signed off on it!

My Vette allows me to change functions apparantly the Camaro does not ... or at least the "know how" hasn't made the internet yet! Until then I better turn the radio off when shifting by the tach.

Other than that its one great car and looking forward to a good road trip soon!

You could just look a few inches down at the dash mounted tachometer.

Just saying.

It's the display on the radio that appears on the HUD AM, FM, XM .... There ain't no escaping it!

Oh look, another tachometer that won't be overridden by the stereo system...

But that's just too obvious of a solution to this problem.

I'm pissed I have to look all the way down at the shifter to see what the transmission temp is, why would they put that pertinent info all the way down there!

Ha! But the HUD is like when you took the "Sun Tach" off the column and put it on the hood so you could see it easier. That was a while ago!

It is not GM, It is XM and only XM because they send the signal that specifies their ads for customers that have a mounted port or separate receiver they installed for after market.

Only other time it pops up when listening to FM/AM, CD, or MP3 is when the song changes...I personally love that because I don't have to look down at the center dash...I can keep looking forward and it STILL tells me the speed. I think that is the whole point....if you don't like it...make sure you don't renew with XM. I won't be..

I know, but with XM you get commercials and they last longer than the 3 seconds the Ipod tells me about the new song. Radio only tells me stuff on the HUD if I change channels, not every song. Besides you should be able to tell when to shift by the sound of the motor IMO. I have been doing that for 30 years, and seldom look at the tach.

No argument there, as said the cars now two days old and the first time I played with it there was HUD advertising. Someone knowing electronics will figure it out. Thanks
