Coilovers on ZL1
I have been searching the forum to find out if anyone has replaced the Mag Ride with coilovers. Does someone make a plug in device to fool the computer?
I am thinking about switching the mag ride out but I know that the computer is looking for signals from the mag ride. Last edited by Happy_Dan; 06-29-2020 at 08:27 AM. |

What would be the advantages of coil overs?

Less expense over time. The front are now 400 to 500 each. They are going up and I am not sure how easy they will be to get later. Coilovers will last longer and easier to replace over time. I love the mag ride, but I have a leaky one at only 35K miles.

Didn't ZMENOW say they now have a lifetime warranty when purchased from the right source? Mag ride is a big part of what makes it a ZL1!

It is an easier choice if there is no plug and play module to fool the computer. I believe that the 2012 ZL1 Coupe with F55 for fronts is part numbers: AC Delco - 580-428 and 429. Can someone verify that as well. |

You have an FE5 suspension from what I have read on your thread. The MAG deletes have gotten cheaper over the past for years but still not cheap. https://www.phastekperformance.com/a...6-401002-n.htm |

Build sheet says F-55. Not sure if that is the suspension or a variant of FE5.
Do you have part numbers for FE5?

Wow, $350 plus the cost of the coilovers. Looks like I will have to order some mag ride struts/shocks.
Now I need to make sure on the part numbers because I won't do them now unless it gets much worse. It is only a minimal leak at this point. |

Not sure what you are seeing but a coupe would be FE5. Those ACDelco numbers look good. You can go to AC Delco’s website and plug you Year, make, model.

I installed Ohlins coilovers on my ZL1. The biggest issue is the car will throw a code and limit the top speed to 85mph. This can be tuned out by raising the limiter with the gm tuning tool. I forget the name of the tool but it is mentioned under my old user name if you search for Ohlins coilovers on this forum.

IF or when the time comes for me to need to buy them if the price is still this high on mag shocks I might go with a softer SS strut as I don't road race mine and these parts, based on this thread:
(a $10 DIY kit) https://www.ctsvowners.com/threads/m...lution.109305/ https://www.alliedelec.com/product/o...3r-f/70596832/ https://www.amazon.com/ADWITS-Therma...07X81PRK7?th=1 (to put between the resistor and the metal part it's mouned to) |

I bought a resistor kit, but they blew out eventually. I don't know the Watt rating of the kit. Adjusting the speed limiter eliminates the impact of the code. I clear the DIC warning with the menu button.
