Control Arms Pressed Aluminium

Quick question whether this has been considered, for the ZL1 1LE 6th Gen it appears that all the control arms are the lighter aluminium variety. Any idea whether these arms will fit a Z28?

A pointless exercise in saving weight, but hey some relatively sane people might suggest that a single speaker or A/C delete is over the top - not me!

Coming from an E92 M3, many folks from the E92 platform would upgrade to the M3 parts for relatively little cost. But my knowledge of Camaros is severely lacking at this point.

If no one has tried it and no scathing comments are received. I'll likely give it a go with a spare hub for fun.

Hope this isn't taken as a scathing comment but I believe you're looking for a problem that doesn't exist and you may screw up the suspension geometry that engineers spent many hours trying to perfect. These are fairly heavy cars and if you shave a few pounds here or there it really won't make that much of a performance difference unless the driver is performing at an extremely high level. Maybe watch the Nurburgring video and decide if the suspension really needs to be improved.

A few of us have installed the Gen6 front radius rod. It is shorter than the Gen5 radius rod and this will cause the caster to increase which is one of the things I was after. Yeah, as ariZona28 mentioned, it's not really worth it otherwise.

The front lower control arm (LCA) is shorter than the Gen6 LCA and that is not a good direction to go.

Here is the Gen6 radius rod on my Gen5 SS 1LE

If you're just looking to save weight (and spend money), I think better bang for buck is replacing the stock bumper supports with tubular like these:

10-11 pounds weight savings per bumper

Thank you for the tips, I'll steer away from the control arm headache and work towards the bumper supports.

Even if the control arms do fit, it's important to consider the potential impact on the overall handling and performance of the vehicle. While reducing weight is generally a good thing, it's important to ensure that any modifications are done in a way that maintains or improves the vehicle's overall balance and handling characteristics.

You're definitely not ChatGPT Celinedion

ChatGPT

As an AI language model, I don't have access to real-time data or the ability to browse the internet. My knowledge is based on the text that was available to me during my training, which has a cutoff date of September 2021. Therefore, I may not have the most up-to-date information on specific vehicle parts or compatibility.

However, in general, control arms are important suspension components that are designed specifically for each generation and model of a vehicle. While some control arms may appear similar or have similar specifications, they may not be interchangeable between different generations or models of vehicles due to differences in chassis design, suspension geometry, and other factors.

To determine whether the control arms from a Chevrolet Camaro 6th Generation ZL1 1LE would fit a Camaro 5th Generation Z28, it's recommended to consult with a qualified mechanic or a Chevrolet dealership to confirm compatibility. They will have access to detailed information and specifications for both vehicle models and can provide accurate guidance on whether the control arms would be compatible or require modification for installation. It's important to use the correct parts that are designed for your specific vehicle to ensure proper fitment and performance.
