2012 zl1 issues?

Hey guys I currently own a full bolt on cammed 2011 ss, but tmrw I'll be going to look at a 2012 ZL1. Was wondering if there are any issues I should be looking for while on the test drive? Thanks in advance and I appologize if there is a thread already about this.

2 things I think that are important, 1 -you need to check slack in super charger pully they wear over a period of time because of a plastic coupler but can be replaced with solid or new sc ,no problem if sc has already been changed 2- is it modded? , that can void your warranty if still in service . and then the normal things you would look for when buying used car

Unless you're prepared to buy, leave your wallet at home. In my opinion, the ZL1 is a dark temptress and you'll not be able to resist buying her. Many SS owners have gone before you (including myself) and were unable to fight back. No matter what you do to a SS, it just can't measure up to a ZL1.

Good luck and let us know how it went. Then post a picture of your new ZL1.

Your whole post had me laughing because it's so true. I had a 2011 SS and went "looking" at a ZL1 and like you said... I had to have her. Hilarious.

What plastic coupler are you referring to? You mean the spring isolator?
I don't think their plastic, and the only problem is the rattle. The spring wears
Into the shaft, which is normal. The problem is the rattle is annoying. They will
All wear over time, even the replacements.

yes, the "plastic"coupler over time stretches, u can tell this when u take the belt off and spin the pully. there is a movement(play) side to side that will causes the supercharger to fail.

Don't do it! The car is highly addictive. You'll start modifying, your wallet will drain and then you may never be able to remove the permanent grin from your face.
You've been warned!

GM is replacing all the SC on the 2012 and 2013 ZL1. They have given them a 10 yr 120,000 mi warranty on the SC, not the whole car. If you hear a rattle when it is running by the front of the SC don't worry, it will be replaced. The only other thing is if it has had a "tune". If it has you don't have a warranty at all unless your local dealer goes to bat for you. Good luck, they are a great car.

CTSV goes back to 09, and if you do a search you'll find from then til know their is less than a handful of issues with failure. The rattle is what has everyone rattled. No pun intended. Lol

Op If I were you I'd ask for a copy of the service records to see if the SC has been replaced (listen for rattling noise from the SC snout area, if you hear it then it likely has not been replaced, make them replace it SCB-13313), listen for noise in the rear of the car during low speed turns (it's from the diff, there is a TSB to fix it PIP-5097).
