68 comaro
Hi all
I'm new to this site and wanted a bit of info on a 68 ss camaro I'm looking at buying one. The one i've seen has a 350 in it.Did they come out standard with the 350? Also the asking price is about $29,000. Its in very good nick with original rims and the engine has a bit of work done to it.Quick, good ,straight car.Silver colour. No rust. Is the price fair? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers hothead Last edited by hothead; 01-09-2011 at 02:52 PM. |

350 came stock only in an ss that year. Is it an ss? Does it have the rally sport option ( hidden head lights)', both sections of the tail lights shoul be red with the backup lights under the rear bumper. The price could be in the ball park for a clean rs/ss car. Do you have pictures or a link to the sale?

The things that drive the sales price up are originality like numbers matching engine, protecto plate and options. Is the price in U.S dollars?

Seems like the price is a little high relative to what they are going for in the U.S. but I am sure there are less of them in Australia so might be higher there.

68 camaro
sorry dont have any photos yet but i can tell you that its being sold as a 68 ss camaro with a 350 in it.The tail lights have the white backup light in them.
That is half red half white and no backup lights under the bumper.Does this mean its not a SS? Also it was shipped from the US so i guess i'm paying shipping as well. There arent many here in OZ and what is here goes for anywhere from $25,000 to $60,000 AUD. Which at the moment is almost the same as USD.So is it a SS? I'd be interested to here your thoughts. Cheers hothead. |

Does is have factory A/C and does it have solid floor pans, trunk pans, qtrs and corner rounds by rear glass? For 29K the car should be a 8-9 with A/C!

SS have a 12 bolt not a 10 bolt ( rear end) check to make sure. Count the bolts.

The tail lights you described only tell us it is not a rally sport. It still could be an ss. The 68 is very tough to prove since there is so little info on the trim tag. Ask them if the numbers match, milage, if it has a protect plate and what options it has? Does it have front disk brakes. We really need to see pictures. What transmission dies it have? Does it have a tach, is it a tic toc tach? Center consul with the four gauges? 29 is high unless it has some nice options.

My Dad has a '68 Camaro, so I'm pretty familiar with them.
The tail lights mean that it's not an RS. If it were an RS it would also have retractable doors for the headlamps, along with some other additional trim pieces. As for the 350, only in the SS as was stated. However, 350s are as common as sand on the beach in the aftermarket and the parts yards up here, so there's a good chance it was installed later on. The exchange rate my be at parity (actually favoring the AUD a bit), but things will still cost a lot more down under as these things take time to adjust. The car that is AU$30k is probably more like US$20k worth. My Mom has an '09 G8 GT that is, for all intents and purposes, a VE Commodore SSV that stickered for US$34k and 2 years on is worth about US$22k. I highly doubt you can come anywhere close to a 2 year old SSV for that down under. Also, if it has been converted to RHD, I'd imagine that would carry some premium, as well. The numbers on the engine block will tell you if it's original, as long as they haven't been removed in previous rebuilds. Here's some good info: http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PadStamps There's probably more information about first gens on that site than anybody ever wanted to know, also.

What type of hood does it have, cowl induction or SS 350 correct lined twin luvours. The ash tray style like the ones on the green 68 above are for the big block 396. Does it have single or multiple leaf springs. I think the ss350 also could have come with a 10 bolt rear-end.
