I think your year car has hydraulic power steering, which would not be adjustable for firmness of feel as is possible with the newer EPAS-equipped cars.

Be careful what you wish for here. 'Harder' or firmer feel is not necessarily the same thing as better feel (with most EPAS systems it just makes the steering feel "heavy", which in turn masks the sensations coming from the tires that tell you what is going on down there).

Like Norm said, you may want to clarify what it is you actually want. If you want better steering feel/response, JPSS makes these neat little billet bushes you can insert into the radius rods. It dramatically will improve the steering feel and turn-in response.

I believe all of the ZL1's would have had EPS which I believe will have different feedback gains and apparent effort for different speeds. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, here. Not a clear/reliable/practial/safe way to modify the HPS to do the same.

It probably is possible to fit a stiffer torsion bar (inside the HPS unit), but that's a bit beyond the average driveway-DIY level.

The turn one will give you the feel your looking for but, the ZL1 is electric and thus changes depending on PTM mode.

I road course mine often. Outside of that a ‘manual’ rack n pinion if you are hard core road racing..
