Which cars were first to come with seat belts?
Yeah, I know about the Tucker being equipt with seat belts. I'm asking about the Big Three. None of my early cars had them until I installed them myself, aftermarket. The first car I remember riding in that was built with them was a '65 Lincoln.

Can you be more specific. The first car to come STANDARD with seatbelts or the first car to have seatbelts available.
American Patent •Edward J. Claghorn was the first to patent a seat belt. Claghorn, who was from New York City, received patent number #312,085 in 1885 for his creation. Claghorn said his invention was "designed to be applied to the person, and provided with hooks and other attachments for securing the person to a fixed object." Quick-Release Belts •The first quick-releasing safety belt installed as standard equipment appeared in Fords for the model year 1956. These safety belts were called the AutoCrat Safety Belt and were patented by brothers Kenneth and Bob Ligon. Modern Belts •Nils Bohlin of Sweden is credited with creating the first modern three-point safety belt. Bohlin's belt, which combined both lap and shoulder straps, was first used in Volvos in the late 1950s.

My '64 Chev SS had then standard. I read the '50 Rambler had them as an option.
The 1957 Fords pushed them big time as a option but people didn't bite. It took a long time for people too get used to them even after they were standard equipment.

Nah, '73 is too late. It's gotta' be between 1960, when I know, for sure, that they were optional equipment, and 1965, when I know, for sure, that they were standard/required
issue in all american cars. |
