Specs for the Hankook R-S4 tires are out! The R-S3 are on closeout pricing as well.
According to Tire Rack's methodology, the 305/30/19s in R-S4 are even wider than RE-71Rs. 11.4" width vs 11.1" width. The R-S4 are also shorter 26" vs 26.2". Going to be watching the competition closely. Someone is going to test the R-S4 soon. Have a feeling the R-S4 will be even better considering they had two years to compare against the RE-71R. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....32XL&tab=Specs http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1RXL&tab=Specs |

Got two sets of RE-71Rs! 285/35/20s on the stock 1LE wheels and 305/30/19s on the Forgelines. Forgelines when shit is serious and 1LE wheels for the random fun events.
Love the look of new tires Thanks to Trackspec for getting these on my car so quickly and storing my extra wheels. |

So this happened this weekend:
Looked like oil was leaking out of the top of the adjuster on the front driver-side strut. Contacted Koni and found out this is actually normal. Just assembly oil. You should start getting worried when the oil is blue or if it won't stop leaking. I've since wiped off the oil and it hasn't returned. Also another interesting point about the Konis. The two struts have differing amounts of range. One has 4.5 turns and the other has 5 turns. That's also normal and you should set the shocks based on # of turns from full soft (0 turns). |

Had a blast this past weekend. Got the chance to race both Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday was a Test & Tune day which was an opportunity to get a feel for the new setup and to tweak rebound + tire pressures. This was the setup: 2015 2SS 1LE Koni Yellow Shocks 19" Forgeline GA3R (19x10 F & 19x11 R) 305/30/19 Bridgestone RE-71R The 305 tires are definitely pinched on the 10" wheels. Bridgestone recommends them for 10.5" to 11.5" width wheels. On 11" wheels, they seem just about right. Because they are pinched, it is very easy for the tire to roll over. That made the tire unpredictable. To solve that, I used less rebound on the front shocks. The rear wheels on the other hand were perfectly happy. So setting up the shocks ended up being intuitive. Increase F rebound until the tire rolls over, then tweak R rebound to your preferences. Sunday was competition day with a full roster of 10 drivers in my class. 3 of which were benchmark drivers driving e92 M3s. In the past when I had: 1) stock 1LE shocks; 2) stock 20" wheels and 3) 285/35/20 RS3 tires, I would always be 2-3 seconds behind with those 3. And they would battle it out to get first. The course was very technical, tight and punished mistakes which made it even more difficult for the large Camaro. In this first competitive event with the new setup, I gained that 2-3 seconds and even beat 2 of them for 2nd place. Out of 147 people in a competitive region with several national champions, I paxed 15th. It was a good day. |

Very good result. Makes you glad you did the upgrades, I bet. Let us know how the car is with the 285-35-20 Bridgestone tires when you run on them. The comparison with this result would be informative.

Yep! Initially hated the changes because the car was incredibly unpredictable compared to before. The test n tune really helped me dial in the car and understand how the shock settings affected the car dynamics.
I do think though, that if you go for the 305/30/19 RE-71Rs, you also need to go for the Konis to pair with the tires. The front, pinched tires roll over way too easily, I've never seen so much shoulder wear on my tires. The 285/35/20 RE-71Rs would probably pair fine with the stock 1LE shocks. In fact, I'll probably have to do another test n tune to maximize the shocks settings for the 285/35/20 tires. In the end, will never know how much of the 2-3 improvement came from the shocks, tires vs driver. The shorter tires likely make a huge difference for the slow courses like this last weekend, better power out of the slow stuff. Also old RS3 tires suck. They never warm up enough to get a good run in. Every time I drove a run w/ the RS3s, the tires had different amounts of grip which wasn't productive to learning the car + course. |

Have you started narrowing down what tire pressures the 305s seem to like? I probably ran mine high last weekend (~35 hot) but the fronts didn't roll over, and I still seemed to use the full contact patch. Granted, I'm on 19x10.5 square wheels, which probably helps the front a little.

Definitely agreed the 10.5" front wheels definitely help with the 305 tires.
I used a tire pyrometer (probe type) to dial in the tire pressures. Settled on 34 hot in the front and 28 hot in the rear. The equivalent cold was 30 F & 25 R. Despite the difference in pressures, the tire temps were similar front and rear (relatively neutral). On the front, frequently found the outside edge was ~5 degrees hotter than the inside edge. Represents not enough negative camber. It should be the opposite where the inside is 5 degrees hotter than the outside with the middle in between. The rear tires had relatively equal temps across the tread. |

Another lesson learned from last weekend. Avoid the Hankook RS4s for autocross. Not as sticky as the RE-71R.
The RS4 was likely developed for the track. |

Some photos from the WSCC autocross I attended last weekend. First time I've been to an event with so many amazing cars. A new ZL1, 1LE, Z06, Grand Sport, ZR1. It was muscle car heaven.
A Red Z06 & Red Grand Sport right behind me. Took some time looking at both to see the visual differences. Was proud to see a sponsor's tow hook on a maxed out C7 Z06 w/ Hoosier tires. |

It's really nice to see people who are enjoying their cars, having fun tweaking them and sharing the results! Thank you! Awesome setup btw.
