The Leather Thread
Never had a leather interior. What do you think the best way to keep it clean and/or take care of it for a long life. What products do you use and why. I'll probably have my 2ss for 15+ years, just like my last one.
Thanks, Lovestanda |

I sound like a salesman for them, but I love Zaino's 'Leather Cleaner' and 'Leather Conditioner'.
I looked at 'Connelly', but the cost was a little expensive for me. I'm sure there are other good quality products available. As I said, I prefer Zaino. It's worked the best for me, and leaves a small that actually does smell like new leather. As far as how often to clean, if your car is used daily, I'd recommend once a month do a good cleaning/conditioning. |

The last 6 cars that I have owned all had leather seats and I have found that the Meguirs brand leather conditioner works great. And it is sold at Wal-Mart or Target stores for less than $5.

What part of the seat is true leather? Isn't it just the part you sit on, and even that has a vinyl coating for protection? I have no idea these are just things I hear about here and there but I'm sure that would make a difference as to which cleaning products to buy.

Don't know what's leather and whats vinyl or what's what. This car is a crazy mystery to me---still haven't seen, heard, smelled or touched a real one YET.

As far as the seating surfaces are concerned, speaking only from experience with the 4th gen., the seating area was leather. |

My parents own several cars with leather and they use Armor All (the same stuff you use on the dash). EDIT: One thing I noticed I left out in my above post is how to tell if you have leather seats or vinyl coated seats. To do this, park the car in the shade or somewhere out of the sun to reduce the effects of evaporation. Put one drop of water (use an eye dropper if you need to) in the middle of the piece you are testing away from any stitching and put it on a level area so it won't run. Uncoated leather will absorb the drop of water in 10-15 mins. |
