Yes it is. The bigger the wheel, even if it is a bit lighter, has more inertia. A 10% increase in diameter means that the rim would have to weigh 18% less in order for it to not lose straight line performance. It becomes less responsive to acceleration and to braking. This is why it is always recomended to upgrade the brakes when larger wheels are used. Additionally, the smaller sidewalls have less flex but again, that hurts acceleration. Not to mention durability, a pothole at low speed with rubber band tires can damage those expensive rims. I'm also not too sure about the comment about being able to use the suspension better than the factory. GM tuned the suspension on the SS to the 20" wheels. So unless you tweak it to allow for the different weight, handling might be worse than before.

Right, the bigger the wheel the less performance. Everyone would agree in general. I don't know if everyone races their vehicle when going to work but when I get my 22" rims they will have a lot of tire to them (the most that would fit the wheel well).
Since I wont be racing, its not a big deal. I think a lot of us wont be racing. (I'm guessing) As you can see in the Camaro Black, there is sufficient room to add 22" rims while still maintaining a significant amount of tire to the rims... and yes, rubberband tires are a waste. |

i can understand performance wise to run 20" but how many people for the 2010 camaro is going to go strickly performance? Ive even seen srt8300 with 22" pushing 500 plus to the wheels with no problem , but then again i guess it up to the owner of the car.
