Why are no legitimate car review companies commenting on the tops?

I frequent consumer reports, car and mucle, edmunds, auto trend, etc. and when you read the reviews of the camaro convertible, none mention reported top issues. These cars have been out for over a year now and they should be reporting this so new buyers are aware.

I've done my part and have uploaded my reviews to each of their sites to inform prospective buyers know that they should be careful.

When my BS started on my first car I started the Facebook group and we hit up all the major publications with what was going on. No response. Another Camaro website actually did a pod cast on the problem. I wonder in this case if money talks and BS walks?

That's why you can't rely on the car reviews...

Well, as a consumer reports subscriber of many years... I am disappointed.

Sadly, the name of CR fails to reflect the reality of what goes on there. How many pro-Honda reviews can you write? They seem to have a serious bias issue over there.

As Birdie stated we hit them up and got nothing in reply. Its obviously a poor design that GM is aware of and has re-designed multiple times. From the TSB's, to the re-designs, to the personal accounts, to the amount of complaints and thread requests on here; it appears that it is a good sized problem.

And yet, not a peep from those "watchdog" magazines who have been told there is a problem.

Makes you wonder the direction of the money. And how dependable their information is.

I didn't say this earlier, but there's a strong likelihood that a lot of magazines fail to report major issues because that isn't why people read their magazines. If I own a car magazine, do I want to fill that magazine with complaints about every car on the market or do I want to sell enthusiasts what they want to hear—that their car or the car they want to be theirs is the best one out there and runs with some serious competition?

Agreed, but that's not Consumer Report's model. They should report on this.

They should but if your are receiving advertising money from said manufacturer, why would you rip on the product? Only to lose said dollars.

If Consumer Reports reports the issue, it still won't fix anyone's top. I don't see how this produces any results to be honest.

Did you not ever take an economics or marketing class. Bad publicity on these tops just from this site and others has changed peoples thinking about the cars and tops. People hear bad things and they steer clear of them. Positive reviews sell cars, hence that is why there is nothing in the press about it. I have several media contacts, none of them want to touch an issue like this unless it is safety related. Why, cause it would take money out of their pockets.

All I can say is that my friend has a mustang with the cloth top and it has the same problems rub marks and all. I saw a newer Nissan Z with a black cloth top the other day and the top looked like crap (worse than any I have seen). I think if anyone was going to review tops you would find that they are all the same!
