Dave retired a few years back. He was, at the time, Vehicle Line Executive for Corvette/XLR. He also served as "Chief Engineer" -- which is somewhat uncommon for a VLE to also be the Chief Engineer. Toward the end, the Chief Engineer title went to Tadge Juechter (who remains C.E.) Tom Wallace was his replacement. Tom has now retired and Gene Stefanyshyn (rhymes with 'definition') has replaced him and also oversees the new Camaro and Kappa vehicles. Gene is a great leader and allows the team to do their jobs and create great cars. (...and believe me - I don't say that about just anyone....) Last edited by fbodfather; 07-16-2009 at 09:02 AM. |

History Tidbit: Bill Mitchell demanded that the '63 Corvette get the split window. (he was a designer) Zora hated it -- it blocked the view -- and a Corvette is a performance car. Customers agreed with the engineer -- thus, the split window lasted one model year. |

Lutz is awesome. Whether you love him or hate him, you've gotta respect him for his honesty. After seeing the title of this thread I remembered one quote from him, regarding the Volt gm-volt.com
Quote:
All hail Bob Lutz

OK, some of you may not like what I have to say but here goes. I think we all have heard this kind of talk from corporate CEO's before when there position is in the hot seat and they are expected to perform miracles . Well, im a little sceptical. Yes, I am a true bloodedAmerican and I believe in buying American but for years the "Big 3" have seen Honda, Toyota and other import companies coming and have not been steady in the quality of cars the American people expect. Now the Big 3 are playing catch up to become who they once were and to gain the American trust again. Yes there are some people out there that want a smaller, more economical car and thats great but when that need was presented, the public had a choice of either buying a Honda that gave great gas milage and reliability for well over 200,00 miles or a Escort, Cavalier or Reliant that was lucky to make it to 100,000 miles. IM just saying that the import car market saw the need and meet it with a great reliable product whereas we kept thinking; "This Import thing is just a fad and will go away".
For years, the Big 3 have built some excelent selling vehicles that meet the need and they had great reliability but when they found out one product would sell better then the other because of a quality issue, instead of fixing it they would simply drop it. If GM and Mr Lutz are going to puff up their collective chests and challenge the car market with better products, THEN DO IT!!! Mr. Lutz, start listening to what the public wants and give them what they are looking for. If you had made a better looking GTO (2004-2006), more like what it used to look like, maybe it would still be in production now and still selling. If you had come out with the Camaro back when it was thought of instead ofwaiting for God who knows what, we would have the convertable and Z28 by now and selling in numbers that would have kept GM in the running. We all have heard this spewing of words from corporate CEO's before, prove your self. Again, just an other opinion and thank you. |

when american (which btw includes ALL of us in N. and S. America as well as you in the US) is built better, then I have no problem buying american.
As I said in a different post, I do not even bother sourcing steel from the US as the price and quality of chinese and japanese steel is so much better. - SK

lutz has done more to turn the company around since he became the ceo then any ceo before him. he inherited a company that was in the red pretty badly and a company that had damage already done with the buying public. since he's been in charge a lot has changed. but it was too late to recover before the economy crashed. but oh well since he was in charge when it tanked lets blame him. |
