Funny, I just took mine to get smogged yesterday and they would not do it because of the Roto-fab intake, said I need it to be CARB approved. Problem is I cut my intake tube on my stock unit so cannot swap. 7k miles and still not fully registered. Hate Cali smog crap. BTW, bought mine from dealer in Arkansas, so was not smogged at dealership.

They informed me they have no plans to make this CAI C.A.R.B. certified. I really like the horsepower gains, so at this point I'm undecided. I know you can put the original one back in, but that is the one thing I hate about living in Califormia. You can't modify a new car

Yes you can, smog shop will not see a ZL1 in a lifetime in most cases. You can modify, just put it back to stock in the 5 years when smog comes due. Or take it in with it all on, no CIL they would not know what is stock on a ZL1. A new car will not have to be smoged for 5 years

The first thing I did was tell Rotofab do not put sticker on, then smog shop does not know if it is not stock. I never put stickers on, that gives away it is not stock.

1. I unscrewed the MAF instead of unplugging it. There is enough play there to slide it out once the stock air box is loose and ready to be removed. You have to eventually screw it back in so this saves you a step and you do not have to be aggravated trying to unplug the MAF.

2. I chose to install air filter after the box was installed. If you go in on an angle with the filter there is enough room to install. This made it easier for me to line up the rotofab box when installing in the car.

3. I also chose to install the top rubber seal as the last step.

Other than that the directions were excellent.

By the way it sounds great!
Check the hood, is it higher on the Rotofab side?

...or perhaps just find a GM or Chevrolet Sticker to put over it temporarily.

Yea, just put something over the Rotofab sticker and take it to a different shop. The intake will pass for a stock one since they probably don't even know what stock looks like. At least they won't till 2018...

Sorry to hear you have to smog it. These cars purchased new in CA don't have to be smogged at a dealership, but do if transferring from a different state. Good luck!!

I thought my CAI was holing my hood up, but it was not.
Like I said, most smog shops will never or has ever looked at a ZL1, so they won't know if the CAI was stock or not.

I have been looking fo one other ZL1 around here in San Diego, I have had mine for 3 months and never saw one other ZL1 yet.

I had my dealer adjust my hood, because it stuck up to high near the back of the hood compared to the fender. It came that way from the factory. Now it is fine.

My ZL1 hood is actually a little low in the air box area from the factory. I think they vary a little more on the ZL1 as compared to the others.

mine was a little low from the factory on the airbox side. when i put the rotofab on i had to adjust my stop up on the passenger side to even it out.

It is not the Rotofab. I removed the seal and it was still a bit high, I had to do a little tweeking the hood and it is fine now.
