How did the Mustang outsell the Camaro this month by that much??? I dont understand it because last month the Camaro outsold the Mustang by like 2,000 units or so. Are the incentives on the 12' Mustangs really that good?

I guess Chevrolet needs to put more commercials for the 13' Camaro once it arrives soon. The Camaro needs to continue to outsell the Mustang every month and we need to keep up our yearly sales over the Mustang.

GM needs to advertise. But this is only the second month out of like the last year where Mustang has outsold Camaro. Competition is good for everyone. Nobody needs to freak out, LOL. Thanks for the numbers!

I dont know what you guys are talking about. I saw numerous ZL1 commercials when I watched Indy and on other channels. Granted its not to the same extent of the Mustang commercials but its still out there none the less. BTW over 9,000 in sales for the month is GOOD.

Buying Cycle
Mustang sales are a five year phase ahead of Camaro in gen5 rebirth of the muscle car buying. When Camaro began deliveries (Apr 09) S197 mustangs were bought out. That is the field of buyers who wanted one had one. The 09, 10, 11, mustangs were face lifted but not enough to to pull anyone out of a paid up S197. S197 did 160,000 units per year in 05-06. That is a lot of buying in a very complex car market. That forced GM & Dodge back to muscle car production. I have an 07 GT carefully modified to keep me interested, I still can't bear to give it up!
Does a buying cycle apply to Camaro? In year 4, 5, and 6, does the field of Camaro buyers saturate? The 13 Mustang is different enough from the 05 type to generate buying. This is my explanation (can be wrong depending on future sales) of the May 12 results. The 05 S197 boosted total mustang births to over 10 million. Perspective: Mustang sold 1.1 million units in 2 years. Corvette sold 1 million units in 40 years. This website for sales analysis assumes the world was born in June of 2009. May 2009, fifth full year production of S197s, 8812 mustangs were sold. Next May (13) will Camaro sell 8812 units? We will see. |

'12 Mustang: $2,500 cash incentive
'13 Mustang: $500 cash incentive (right out of the gates) '12 Camaro: $0 cash incentive Mustang has been pretty heavy on incentives this year. Ford is trying to keep factory utilization up. |

One of the biggest differences in the Mustang 5.0 and Camaro SS is PRICE, Mustang's are cheaper and most people buying a SS or 5.0 are after the motor most of all, The 2012 5.0 that I just traded for this SS that I now own was $6k cheaper and basically all of the same features, that says alot when someone is payment shopping....Chevrolet needs to have a similar car for the same money or cheaper than the base 5.0 Mustang. That in itself would help sales of the Camaro's and especially the SS's.

I figured differences are due to production start/stop dates for ford being different than chevy
