Stock Exhaust

With all of these power gains with complete exhaust systems, I'm wondering where the restrictions are in the stock setup.

I mean, I get it that the stock exhaust manifold will not flow as well as headers and the stock mufflers seem to be very restrictive. But isn't everything else in the middle pretty good?

I'm gonna wait for the GMPP shorty headers and axle-back to be dyno'd before making my decision. I'd like to keep my warranty.

I think the biggest restrictions are the manifolds and the cats'. Because they're closest to the exhaust port, they are going to have the greatest influence on power. I'm sure the resonators and mufflers will restrict flow, but they're further downstream, and therefore will have less influence. Though these gains with LTs and X-pipes are HUGE, I can't go that way, and, like you, are waiting for results from shorties. Even another 10-15 RWHP would be nice from the shorties, though, I'm not sure that's going to really happen. The cats' are too close the really change the primary tube lengths, so I don't really have high hopes I'll be ditching the OEM mufflers and resonators regardless though. At least I'll save a little weight, LOL.

I don't think the piping is much of a restriction.

I think the stock manifolds are #1, followed by the mufflers and THEN the cats.

If you had to choose between only changing out the stock h-pipe and the mufflers, I would do the mufflers. Modern cats are not that restrictive, especially at these power levels.

That's the way I understand it too. It's too bad, though, that moving the cats' is a no-no. It makes it impossible to get sufficient primary length with them stuck in the stock location

Full length headers are the only way to go. These engines just love that free breathing...

I agree with the free breathing being a big plus but some of the numbers are hard to believe. 50 rwhp with a tune and exhaust. I hope this is true but having trouble thinking it is.

AR headers just posted that like yesterday, exactly 50 rwhp with their LT headers and tune with stock axle back exhaust

Too bad you can't go with long tubes, no cats, mufflers for those quiet times, and a set of diverters. Gotta have cats, diverters are illegal in PA. Because of that, I think mine is staying stock, at least for awhile.

H-pipe, really? I was under the impression that it was X-pipe

What brand muffler would give it the best "roar"?

Personally, I prefer Corsa then Borla for sound. They can be pricey and I'm not sure either of them offer an axle-back solution.
I've read the GMPP axle-back was designed by Borla. If it has that sound and gives me a few ponies to boot, I might go that way.

But we really need to get some sound clips and dyno's for the GMPP parts...
