Just test drove a '18 ZL1......
It has been a while for me as I sold my 2015 ZL1 almost 2 yrs ago. Bought it new in Feb of '15 and over time did the usual mods (pullys, headers, CAI, tune)...just under 600 RWHP.
Recently, I started looking back into these and test drove a new '18 today. While the acceleration felt nice - I'm not sure if it felt any quicker than my modded '15 but to be fair it was just around a long block test drive light to light and never had it on a very long straight away (plus, didn't want to rattle the salesman). So...question for folks that went from a stock Gen5 ZL1 into the Gen6 ZL1 - Did you feel a huge difference on acceleration when you first drove the Gen6 ZL1? ...I'm getting old so I really can't remember what my Gen5 ZL1 felt stock - but I did know at that time I thought it needed some more oomph to it. If I do get back in the game, this one I would keep stock with just maybe a Rotofab CAI. |

I have a stock 2013 ZL1, and had a chance to put some miles on a new ZL1 1LE, and yes the 1LE did feel stronger, no doubt about it.
(both cars are M6's) |

Appreciate it -also, left out that it was an auto that I had and the one that I drove today. I only drive autos due to a prosthetic left leg (motorcycle accident in '82). |

Had a bone stock 2013 ZL1 M6 and now have an '18 A10 Coupe. It's a completely different car. Handles better, stops better, pulls harder, and everything is higher quality on it, especially the interior. My 5th Gen ZL1 never felt fast to me, but the 6th gen is pretty quick, neither of them are going to tear your face off though like some 720S or similar.

I am jealous of your current garage in your sig....nice. My last ZL1 was also my daily driver - this time around it won't be. I still want to test drive a Hellcat Challenger too but I like how the ZL1 feels more like a Corvette when you sit in the drivers seat. |

Your modded 15 ZL1 was probably a bit quicker, but if you try to imagine what it felt like stock and compare it to after mods you’d have a better comparison. I had a 12 ZL1 with a RotoFab and it ran 12.20s heat soaked. The 18 should run about .75 second quicker stock easily. The 10 speed should make it feel more responsive. I was never impressed with the car and sold it after a year.

Gen 5 Camaros are dogs compared to the Gen 6 ZL1!! I’ve driven nothing but Camaros and Corvettes for the last 8 years and I’m confident in saying the Gen 6 ZL1 is like driving a Z06. It’s more nimble, agile, faster, brakes harder, stops faster, engine is phenomenal. It’s that Alpha chassis! And you will love the 10 speed.

OP, if your only planned mod is a CAI, you might be disappointed. Read some of the comparison threads about CAI on this forum. They don't seem to make much of a difference in HP and torque.
Although, they do look good. So, if you are going to install one because it looks better, go for it. If you are doing it for performance, that is a lot of money to spend for almost no gain...

Yeah, well aware of what it does - doing it more for that "whine" increase and looks better under the hood. This time around, would rather keep stock - maybe a tune. That is why I want to test drive a Hellcat - to really see if there is a big difference in acceleration between the two bone stock. |

I had a 13 ZL1 A6 for 35k Miles. Huge disappointment. Heat soaked after 1 roll run and slow. The new ZL1 is faster all day stock vs stock.

I had a FBO 10 SS. When I saw the 5th Gen ZL1s I never thought they were worth upgrading from the SS. I mean, if I was gonna buy one or the other then I would certainly get the ZL1. But to me, since I already had the SS, I didn't think it offered enough performance to justify trading in. And I even said that to a few people who were considering trading in. The 6th Gen ZL1 however is completely different. I thought it was worth every bit of a trade. And even comparing the 5th Gen ZL1 to the 6th Gen ZL1 or the 6th Gen SS to the 6th Gen ZL1, I think it is worth trading up for sure. Night and day difference between these cars and the 17+ ZL1. Unless you're heavily modded and stand to lose lots of money. Otherwise I gotta say right now the ZL1 is the hot ticket!

Thanks for the comments. I did state in my opening post that I sold my '15 ZL1 a while back - so, no trade - just looking at getting back into having a performance toy that I don't have to daily drive (my '15 ZL1 was also my DD, now have a '17 Ridgeline for my DD). I see that you have both ZL1 and Hellcat - so you are the perfect authority to ask... How does the acceleration compare between a stock Gen6 ZL1 and a stock Hellcat? . |
