Hey guys I was wondering if I should use a fuel injector cleaner. I have 12700 miles on my car and use 93octain shell. Do I need to use a fuel injector cleaner if so which brand is the best?

here's what GM says on page 8-45 of the owner's manual (which you read, right )...

Fuel Additives
To provide cleaner air, all gasolines
in the United States are now required
to contain additives that help prevent
engine and fuel system deposits
from forming, allowing the emission
control system to work properly.
In most cases, you should not have
to add anything to the fuel.
However,
some gasolines contain only the
minimum amount of additive
required to meet U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency regulations.
To help keep fuel injectors and
intake valves clean, or if the vehicle
experiences problems due to dirty
injectors or valves, look for gasoline
that is advertised as TOP TIER
Detergent Gasoline.
Look for the
TOP TIER label on the fuel pump to
ensure gasoline meets enhanced
detergency standards developed
by the auto companies. A list of
marketers providing TOP TIER
Detergent Gasoline can be found
at www.toptiergas.com.
For customers who do not use
TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline
regularly, one bottle of GM Fuel
System Treatment PLUS, added
to the fuel tank at every engine oil
change, can help clean deposits
from fuel injectors and intake valves.
GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS
is the only gasoline additive
recommended by General Motors.
It is available at your dealer/retailer
.

put sand in there.

im just kidding. dont do that. its just my attempt at sarcasm. my 89 in my signature has 295k on it and in the last 200k, since ive owned it, i havent ever added anything but plain 87 octane. so i dont think its necessary to add anything to your tank either.

You do not need a fuel injector cleaner at 12k miles if using top tier fuel.

its already in the fuel, each company has a different name for it but they all have it,chevron calls it techron, texaco has one i cant recall what it is at the moment,if anything at 15k i would take a look at your throttle plate and look for carbon build up,then find a shop that does a good induction clean service, thats a better way to go,also done stick a screw driver in your throttle or youll damage the drive by wire system just turn key on and press the gas pedal down and have someone look inside for build-up,just my two cents

I had a Silverado with 280k on it, and would run a bottle of Techron in it when I noticed my gas mileage changing. It seemed to help. I try to run a bottle or two per year in order to keep ahead of it.

i put Sta-Bil Marine Formula in mine. mainly cuz it is not driven daily and the marine formula contains special additives to prevent the "10% Ethanol" crap from forming condensate inside the tank and lines.

regular stab-bil works just fine as well, but the marine formula lasts longer and has the extra ethanol treatment.
