Serious Post for Once...

For the zillionth time, we have a thread about a young 16 year old getting a Camaro.

Some of the threads were started in such a way as to be seen as bragging. Heck, just mentioning that you are 16 is unnecessary, but not unheard of.

Most people say hi, but my problem is that some people take what I think is a prejudice against people with money, and spew hate and vitriol at the original posters based on the fact that they don't deserve to have a car because "daddy bought it".

Simply put, this kind of attitude should not be allowed on the boards. We don't allow racism on the boards, and frankly I don't think we should allow classism as well. I've been seeing too many people take this too far.

It's fine to say "Hey...I worked hard for my car", but to start calling people names because they come from a different family and background is wrong in my opinion.

We -should- give these young drivers a hard time when they talk about racing or getting run off the road by old men 1 day after they bought their car, but is it really that big a deal to you that someone got a Camaro and it was paid for by their parents? Do those of you that feel this way think that the Camaro is so exclusive that you have to find reasons for people to not deserve one?

If so, I think the following words sum this up...

A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity.

I have no problem with whomever owns a nice car. What I don't like is for someone to say I'm 16, I own a Camaro SS, I make all the payments and insurance. This is what bugs me. No way if you are 16 you can do this by yourself which is how most make it sound. If your mom and dad bought you the car or you are paying them each month or whatever, just say that. There is nothing wrong with your mom or dad buying you the car. Just don't try and BS us that you and you alone are buying a nearly 40K car. It ain't happening.

Agreed. My real issue with it is knowing how I was at 16 in a CheVette. I was invincible and the best driver on the road. Well maybe not but that's how I drove.

Very well said..... with one caveat..... a lot of these "kids" tend to come on these types of forums and brag about it.....and that does rub some people the wrong way, especially those who have had to work hard to get the same things.

I think what we really should be doing, is focusing on the individual, and not the group. Every one that comes on here is a different person, in a different position, with different circumstances....

How do you know? I know a person who used to live across the street from me. He was working every year since he was 10 years old, everything from mowing lawns to waiting tables. When he was 16, he bought himself a brand new BMW.

Yes, he had to have his dad help him get it, but he paid for it....and continued to pay the payments/insurance by himself.

You don't know what the kid has financially, nor do you know what the kid does to make his money.

Agreed, that some of the posts started with a "I got it, payed for it...and will be paying for my zillion upgrades" BS.

This last thread, however, started much more sanely...and eventually the trolls came out saying things similar to "I bet your daddy is paying for it" and are YOU paying for upgrades, etc...which drew the OP into saying stuff he might not have said initially.

There's a difference between being a blowhard, and answering questions when asked. And it doesn't make you a punk to answer those types of direct questions honestly.

The flip side of it is the maturity issue. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and many, myself included, are of the mind that it is a poor decision to hand the keys to a 426hp car to an inexperienced and immature driver. Reckless too. Far too many tragic stories and endings. There's something to be said for responsibility.

I agree completely I'm 19 and some people on this forum have way too much hatred towards younger Camaro owners. I respect them for working hard and affording their car, but they turn into 6 year olds on the forum against a 16 year old calling him names and throwing out fake accusations. This needs to come to and end, seriously if you can't handle younger kids driving nice cars, look up Justin Bieber driving a Lamborghini. That car probably costs more than some people on here's houses. Honestly, suck it up.
