JRE Transmission dipstick install problems

Decided to make life a bit easier on myself with the transmission dipstick from JRE. Instead, I added nothing but frustration. This thing fits like crap. I had to tweak, bend, notch and it still doesn't fit worth a damn. Maybe I'm missing something, Others don't seem to have problems.

It just seems to hit the floor pan, bind against the wiring harness and the bracket is so far off, it pulls the tube back out of the grommet if I attempt to force it into place. I doubt I got a bad one since it appears to be an OE part but after 4 hours, I gave up. Any body have similar issues? Any help would be appreciated before this thing ends up in the trash.

I had all the same problems as you, but it does fit. Mine did just take your time. I had a better time taking off the grommet, put it in the transmission first then stab the dip stick in.

I ended up doing the grommet like you. I also had to loosen the transmission mount to get enough room to tilt the top of the tube up so the angle was right enough to get the tube into the grommet. I see no other option than to cut the bracket off and reweld it.

That sounds like a lot of work for what is supposed to be a simple installation. Have you considered the flexible dipstick by Lokar (TD-36L80FM48)?

I found that detaching that harness that runs right there needs to be removed, then mine popped right in with a couple tweaks..

I saw a video where a guy notched the bracket were the starter cable goes through and makes the installation easier

Called JRE. They put me on with a tech that installs them. He gave me a few tips (most of which I already tried) but did make a few suggestions that may help. He did say some go easier than others. LOL...just my luck.

Well he mentioned dropping the transmission, putting the grommet in the trans first and then putting the tube in, raising the wiring harness and lubing the tube/grommet all of which I already tried. He also talked about removing the wire retention band completely, removing #8 plug wire and relocating the starter wires.

Bottom line is IT'S DONE. Got home from work tonight, had a couple of beers and went back in the garage with a calm mindset. Laid on the creeper and studied it a bit. Had the wife under the hood holding the upper part while I hand tweaked the bracket and got it stay in the grommet AND got the bracket aligned. It still barley touches the floor pan but I think it will be OK.

The one tip I came up with is, IF you are having the problem with the tube coming back out of the grommet while trying to get the bracket lined up, take a 3' or 4' section of 10 or 12 gauge stranded wire and loop it over top of the tube on the horizonal section, wrap the ends around your hand and keep pulling down with one hand while wrestling the bracket into position with the other. There is simply no where to grab and hold the tube and the wire saved my day.

Thanks for all the help.
