The SS never meant anything to me, but I'm a youngin (mid-upper 20's).
Camaro SS means something, but SS alone illicits no emotional response. If I see a Cobalt SS I don't even THINK for a moment that the SS on that cobalt shares anything with the SS on my camaro. So the SS on a camaro means something to me within the realm of the camaro. I bet if I was a cobalt fan, The SS would mean something only within the realm of the Cobalt. It really doesnt bother me if they use it on every other car for all I care!

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

As far as the TBSS is concerned, it's a direct evolution of the Typhoon and Syclones. It's (was) also a direct competitor of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 (which is also a moniker that is used across many different vehicles). *edit: if you doubt the performance of the TBSS, there are TBSS's running 12 and 11 second 1/4 miles over on tbssowners.com. Yea yea, not as impressive as a Camaro or Mustang, but consider that this thing weighs 4500 lbs. Certainly not the most ideal setup, but you can definitely extract some performance out of these trucks. Also, I've never seen "SS" on any vehicle that would be classified as a "sports car". |

Its all in the mind
When I had the '94 Z28 I wanted an SS.... Now I have the SS and it looks like the Z28 will be top dog... Net - I have a 6.2L 426hp, flaming orange beast which still turns heads and most folks on the street cant even tell between the V6 and the V8 let alone differentiate between SS / Z28 etc - all they know is that it is a very cool car so life is good .

The days of "SS" meaning SS badges and a larger displacement engine being stuck into a car are over. You'll start seeing RS on cars with sporty appearance packages a lot more.

By the time the Z-28 comes out my SS will beat it. I'm not really paying much attention to the SS, LT, LS, Z-28 badging.

It may beat it but it won't be a Z28. And the the Z will have more potential when mods are released.

The only SS's ive liked are Camaro's and the Silverado. The SS Silverado may not have been chevys best idea, but I love the look at the power.

Oh by the way, a factory 426hemi car in any condition. brings at least $40 grand to start and goes up on condition. Plus, every top fuel and funny car today is based off the 426hemi. I don't believe the 5.7 or the 6.1 will ever reach that status. |

Not sure why people are down on the Cobalt SS, that little car was an animal. 0-60 time of approximately 5.7 seconds, and a top speed of 160MPH. The Cobalt SS set a new class record @ Nurburgring racing circuit, posting a time of 8:22.85 minutes.
Compared w/ 2010 Camaro SS, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS lapped the Nurburgring in 8:20. 1.1 seconds faster 0-60 and 2.85 seconds faster on the Nuremburgring. If you want more than that out of a 4 banger then I just don't know what you want. The Cobalt SS along w/ Tblazer SS were certainly worthy of the SS emblem.

I have full intention to spank the 1st Z28, 2011 mustang and Challenger I see. I always run into most of these type of cars when I'm in the daily driver. SS means a lot to me....

I don't have a problem with the SS being used on other models. As stated before, many models have had it in the past when it symbolized the top performance trim of that particular model or a specialty type like my SSR. I think all the modern day vehicles sporting that badge sport them for a reason. It's not just looks. It's performance, visuals and interior packages all combined to set that particular version apart from the average everyday car you will see. IMO, any SS distinctively says Chevrolet and is automatically known for performance.
