hate to ask lol
ok new owner here, i drive alot of miles and hopefully i can put some on my other car but one of the things i have done for years is use the mobil 1 extended range oil which is rated to 15000 miles, the problem is the oil filter, recently fram came out with a filter that gives you 12000 miles of protection. i was looking for the filter for this car and it is a cartridge as opposed to a traditional filter..... is this correct? also do they make a kick ass filter that is better than a standard filter for this car that would be more appropriate? i dont plan to stretch to 15k miles on changes but i might go 10 with this setup if i can get the right filter..... btw i drive hwy 99% of the time

The oil filter is under the engine and easy to get to once you lift the car.

Would need to know what engine you have (V8 or V6). Just a note: the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil is NOT rated for GM-4718M specifications, and therefore not recommended for the Camaro V-8 engine (per the owner's manual). I'm not sure of the requirements for the V6. If you have a V8, and don't want to risk warranty problems, stick with regular Mobil-1 5W30 synthetic (it is rated for GM-4718M).
I know my LS3 V-8 filter is a traditional canister type filter located under the engine as normal. The "cartridge" filter doesn't sound right?!?!? And any good name brand oil filter will do just fine. I would recommend Wix, Mobil 1, GM (Delco), or K&N. |

I would not put a Fram filter on my dog's car! One look at the inside would convince you. A Wix, Purolater, NAPA Gold, Mobil-1 are all better choices. You can't go wrong with any of those.
My advice is to use the factory fill oil and change it when the monitor says to change it. You might want to do just the first one early but that is your call. -Mark. |

I have to assume you have the V6. Yes it's a cartridge filter, accessed under the hood. I use the NAPA GOLD #7090 filter. Use regular Mobil1. You buy the oil at Wal-Mart (6 qts.), the filter at NAPA and do it yourself. Complete oil change will be less than $35, and will take you less than 30 minutes to do. I've been changing my oil every 5,000 miles (maybe overkill, but it's cheap insurance) regardless of what the oil life monitor says.
