LFX first time at the track
Stock, A/T V6 LFX. Had fun playing with the built in linelock (foot on brake and gas pedal feature). I was consistent with 15.7 and 15.6 in 1/4 mile. Is this about what other LFX owners have gotten? I didn't have the guts to turn off traction control, so no burn out, but my Good Year Eagle Sports weren't chirping either.
I'm thinking I'll get a good CAI, then get it tuned. Any other suggestions? (disclaimer: I'm not putting a V8 in it, etc.)

15.6-15.7 seems slow. I’ve never taken mine to the track (and probably never will) but my butt dyno/quarter mile timer tells me my car feels like it does the quarter mile in the mid 14’s. The guys in this thread reported stock LFX times between 14.3 and 14.9, see link:
https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174358 I see you’re in Arizona - I’m guessing the temp at the track was close to 100 degrees? That would certainly impact your times in a negative way. Try going at night and turning off the traction control and see if your times get better. |

Yes, our elevation at the track is about 3500 ft and the air temp was between 95-100.
Figuring GM quoted 14.1 in the 1/4 mile, I was hoping for 14.6. But 15.6 shocked me. My friend's WRX also ran 15.6, so I'm wondering if it is due to temp and elevation.

Probably both . . . and having traction control on probably wasn't helping your times any either. There's also the matter of what rpms the car was shifting at, whether you were letting the AT do its thing or you were manually commanding the upshifts.
You might get a few more suggestions if you post a picture of a time slip. Things like reaction time, 60-foot times, etc. will help somebody who knows more about drag racing (especially automatic transmission cars) than I ever will, figure out what you need to work on. Norm

NORM!!!!!!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll download slips when i get home. I'm at work, shhhhhh. As for your other info, I was letting AT shift for me. So having traction control on will slow me down? Time to take the training wheels off... and the TC.

You running 93 octane BTW?
Yep, those times are slow. The stock autos run consistent times in the mid fourteens. A 14.1 would be an everything-came-together-praise-the-Lord moment.

Elevation and temp will kill your times. Here in Denver our track is at 6000' and the best I can run my SS is 13.8. Figure you will lose about 3% of your HP per 1000' of elevation so for you, you have lost about 30 HP right off the line. Don't put a lot of weight in what others run unless they are at the same track. If you are on here trying to chase everyone else's time you will drive yourself crazy. If your times are consistent then that's what your car can do. I would turn off the traction control the car can handle it.

A little tire slip is usually a good thing, because it lets the engine get the revs up into its powerband sooner. This is especially true for high-revving small-displacement NA motors, where there's only so much you can do to crutch the somewhat 'soft' low-end torque. Never mind that it takes time for an episode of having traction controlled to either let go of the brakes or let the engine return to WOT. Time you don't want to spend at anything less than the maximum acceleration possible when only about 15 seconds matter and it's the first couple seconds of those that count the most. BTW no need for apology. I've been having more fun with that over the years than you might guess. Norm

Agreed, experiment with different modes, but just keep going to the track and get that seat time through doing passes. Get to know your car, and how to launch consistently and efficiently. Keep in mind that the computer is going to shift faster than a 'normal' human being, also that when it comes to bracket racing, you want consistency so you don't end up breaking out of your dial-in time. And have fun!

I'm looking to go back to the track on the 28th. I'll do a couple passes with traction control off then a couple with stabilitrac off. I don't think i have enough power to actually get squirrelly!

You need to launch better, that will help a lot...a 60’ time of 2.6 is awful

I'm having my left foot on the brake, right foot on the gas, rev'd up as high as it will let me. I launch and my foot is still pressed on the gas the whole way.
The last pass was about 7pm, air temp was down to about 95* and sun was setting so i'm sure that helped over the other two.

Don’t let them beat you up. Great 60 foot times on a stock 3.6 are 2.1-2.3. 2.6 is a pretty average time. Turn off TC and figure out your shift points, you’ll shave 0.5 off your times.
