The Electric Turbo Camaro Project

I'm happy to announce my electric turbo project is fully underway, with my unit having arrived and having been successfully tested. I have most of the parts I'm going to need for the installation, when the weather is a bit more favourable but the main goal in the interim will be setting up the electrical circuitry and computer code needed to run everything flawlessly. Hope you enjoy following this project as much as I enjoy doing it:

Got to get me an amp clamp so I can measure the draw on the battery. I think the Mamba XL can only take 300 amps before blowing up but presently I can't check it + without backpressure it'll never be at full load. Looking into this...

Update: So I just ran a fully charged battery at maximum duty with an amp clamp and measured 176A @ 20.6V (3.6kW/~4.9HP) and this is with the turbo venting to atmosphere so no resistance on the blades.

I know I can get the amps higher just by adding the restriction of the engine but the volts will drop even more. With 2 batteries (or infinite batteries for that matter), the best I could hope for is 24V, which is ok but I feel I'm not maximizing the hardware I have so I'm going to move to 7S LiPo batteries, with a max voltage of 29.4V. The BLDC controller can't handle anything higher than 30V so the idea is to max that out and then I can get the 300A through the controller and make up to 8.4kW, compared to the 5 I'm measuring right now.

Incidentally, the motor can still handle more power but unless I move to a better BLDC controller, I'm limited to 300A and 30V... but 8kW should be plenty for my needs.

I'm not sure if the amps will go up as you add the restriction. At least on a water pump, the power required goes up as the flow goes up and the restriction goes down.

Hey guys. I know it's been a long time with no activity. Believe me I have been trying my best to move things along but some things are beyond one's control. However the good news is that the mechanical install is underway and in the meantime I have a new vid regarding the control system I've built to run the S/C for those interested in this half of the project. Enjoy!
