Drag Radial vs Bias Ply Slicks

I finally got the turbo to light off the line and now it's smoking the Hoosier DRs (335/30R18). The DRs are fairly old although there are probably only 20-30 passes on them, so I was thinking of going to an M&H or Mickey Thompson. I figure why dial back the 2step when I can hook harder with a stickier tire. I also thought about a slick. The only slicks on Summit are 10 inch Hoosiers or 10.5 inch M&H. Would a 10 inch slick hook harder than a 325/40/18 DR even though it has less cross section. What ever I choose has to fit an 18 inch rim because I also run HPDE so getting fancy with rear LCAs and brakes etc. is out. The current rims are 10.5 wide.

You aren't going to hook with 18s at that power level. Just give up and get a set of 17s.

Thanks Vegas, do I have to do anything more than tie back the e-brake cable with 17s?

If you are stock ride height, that is all you need to do. If you are lowered, you may need to do some clearancing. I am lowered and have BMR adjustable LCAs. No clearance issues.

Another advantage of stock height is fitting MT ET Street R 315/50x17 in the wheel well. More sidewall and contact patch. Sadly, I can't run them.

I'm about a half inch lower in the back, but based on what you said, I take it I should stick with a wide DR rather than move to a 10 or 11 inch slick

I have used the Hoosier 10" slick and MT DRs and I'm lowered 1.5" in back. The real decider for picking a tire type is what transmission.

Slicks are for sticks. DRs for auto.

Now, are going to get MT, M&H or Hoosier DRs? Please don't say Nitto. Unless you are stick. I loved my Hoosier bias ply when I was stick. Did a 4L80 swap and switched to MT DRs..

I'm a stick and it looks like Hoosier 28x10 slicks.

One of my friends had an 03 Cobra with 800rwhp with a th400 swap and straight rear end swap as well and ran the Hoosier's and hooked very well with them! He took me for a ride and about snapped my neck when he took off. It also was a stick car. Good luck..

My car has worked well on slicks on my local track, and I'm auto.

If OP is stick, slicks might be the way to go, they are more forgiving.

I went with M&H 28x10 and it hooked so hard I snapped a ZL1 axle.

I need lots of forgiveness.

I dont know if you’re talking about track or street, but on the street I made a huge improvement going from a 325/50/15 ET R to a 28x10.5x15 MT et drag slick with a stiff wall.

So to answer your question, the loss in width did not hurt it.
