So I got the OEM glass, buuuuut...satan's taint (Safelite) slammed by door against a parts car I have, and scratched the paint down to bare metal, not in one, but two places.

The door swung out hit a body mount frame, then past it to hit the actual frame. So I had to move the car forward to get it unstuck...Im not happy with this whole ordeal.

But here are some cool pics of the car without glass.

I was going to ask them to help me put my louvers on but nope. Taking it to a shop for that...(I dont want to risk anything, with a bad spinal chord holding the louvers by myself)

Just got my windshield replaced by Safelite yesterday...
I set up the appointment online at 7:00 a.m., and they called at 9 to tell me they could get me in early if I wanted (appt. was for 10:30). New windshield looks perfect, it's a Pilkerton (sp?), as is the factory back window. Maybe having HUD and remote start forces them to use OEM parts?
Unfortunately for me, I have $1K deductible (forgot to lower it after getting rid of my Caddy), so it was all on me, but still was over $300.00 cheaper than what the dealer quoted me. Glass looks perfect, guys were pleasant and it has a lifetime guarantee...
Maybe things are different in Omaha, but I'm happy with them (so far).

Be more like the glass on a Rolex compared to the glass on a Timex, in some cases use the same bezel manufacturers..... just sayin....

Because most reputable insurance companies offer free glass replacement.... Why would you go out of pocket, if it was free?

I just got my windshield replaced yesterday but it is a genuine GM windshield due to the HUD and Remote Start on the car. Speedy Glass in Canada did it and it looks perfect! Car is fine too they even cleaned all my windows in the car and gave the interior a wipedown which was a nice surprise!

You never know how dirty your windshield was until you get a brand new one....

Unless it's serious damage (a window is not) I keep it off my insurance. I perposly keep a high deductible because insurance is so much high out here being a party city. If it's less than 1k I don't even consider insurance.

I changed my deductible to $100 and I'm glad I did. It only cost me a few dollars more a month and I had to get my windshield replaced today. It only cost me $100 for a HUD windshield.

Btw, does anyone know why my glass installer needed 3 hours to replace my windshield? They had me bring the car to the shop rather than use their mobile service because of the time involved.

I used JNPhilps. They used a special windshield because of the HUD. I was told it was a $1500 windshield. All etchings and numbers on the new windshield matched the old one.

So is the glass in the windshield different for the HUD? I thought it wasn't anything special for the windshield itself.

I have used Safelite many times and the only time I had a problem was on a 1990 crx si and it was because they used there own trim. Once they replaced the window the second time with oem it was perfect.
I think a lot has to do with the installer more then the company. I had my Camaro window replaced 3 months ago and it looked just like OEM with HUD.

jesus ...this thread is one of the worst i have read on here !!

Most Aftermarket glass is just as good as O.E
it is not a different thickness compared to O.E
Brands that are good for our camaro's ...pilkington ( obviously that was who made it for gm ) fuyao is a nice piece of glass as well
pgw sucks now ..xyg sucks
anything else that isn't branded is usually just the worst glass lol

If the install " leaks air " ...its a bad job from a shit tech
if the install leaks water ...its a bad job from a shit tech
...if the tech tells you its not as good as O.E ...never use that company again

been in the glass trade for close to 7 years now
and i can tell you .....most guys doing glass shouldn't be doing glass i have seen some awful awful work and it makes me sick ...the windshield is a key safety piece in all new cars...
if anyone has any questions pm me ...i can answer anything glass related !!!
