Harsh Chemical or Water Damage?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I am having an issue with water damage, chemicals, or something all together.

In the trunk of my 2015 Camaro, I noticed that there is some bubbling of the paint underneath the trunk fabric where the rpo code sticker is.

Before I noticed this, I had a bottle of engine oil in my trunk as a just in case and one of the straps on my headlamp had been eaten away. I thought something had happened with the oil, so I took it out.

Recently, I was washing some clothes and noticed that my hoodie had the same issue with the fabric being eaten away. I took the carpet out of the trunk and found bubbling of the paint and have a residue that resembles sand.

What am I experiencing? I did notice when I first bought the car that the trunk would get wet, so I replaced the weatherstrip and haven't had water issues since.

Maybe the battery exploded on previous owner and the trunk was not thoroughly cleaned of excessive battery acid. If your shirt was in the trunk prior to fixing the leak then water activate the acid and destroyed your shirt. The other damage is just (possible) the effect of the acid. Just a thought.

James, looks like battery acid to me. Can you remove cover so we can see battery?

If that's happening above the cover it might be a horror show underneath.

Good luck!
