Dumb question for today: so why is this a "GM" car?

When you talk about Infiniti, you talk about Infiniti - you don't say you have a "Nissan".

When you talk about Lexus, you talk about Lexus - you don't say you have a "Toyota".

When you talk about Audi, you talk about Audi - you don't say you have a "Volkswagen"

When you talk about Lincoln, you talk about Lincoln - you don't say you have a "Ford".

Why the heck do we never say we have a Chevy, we keep saying we have a GM? Yes GM is the parent company, but why almost solely refer to the parent company? Doesn't happen anywhere else!

I don't say I have a GM Camaro. It is a Chevy Camaro. We talk about GM, but we don't refer to the car in this manner.

Actually I do, except for perhaps Audi all of those tend to be rather blatant rebadges from the parent companies core brand. On the subject of GM specifically they have pushed a rather questionable marketing strategy over the last few years of marketing the GM brand even vandalizing their own cars with those goofy little GM chiclets for awhile.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to any Chevy car (or Pontiac or Buick) as a GM. Really, the only time I hear anyone refer to GM, they're talking about the entire Corporation or all the auto brands rather than just Chevy, etc.

I get a "thumbs up" from all the Chevy vehicles around town. Impala, Malibu, Avalanche...etc. Nothing from Cadillac, Buick drivers yet.

The bit about the chiclets was mostly in fun, they were small enough not to be all that bad. There were only a few cars that such as the Solstice where it really just didn't work with the cars lines IMO.

Might just be me and working in the industry, but I DO see Infiniti as Nissan and Audi as VW and Mini as BMW etc.

I can't imagine that anyone doesn't think of a Lincoln or Mercury are FoMoCo or that Dodge is Chrysler. But in my job is see and think globally.
