So, on my own dime, I took the car to an A/C specialist. He checked the refrigerant capacity and verified that it was full enough. He also verified that it is cooling in the low 40 degrees range when the compressor is fully functioning. But, when the compressor cycles off (normal activity) the air temp. goes up to the high 50's and feels warmer. That is bad !!

He then spent additional time to troubleshoot the system, and figured out that an internal air damper door is not fully sealed and is allowing some non-cooled air to seep into the system. He said that it is common that foam around the edge of the little plastic door often keeps the door fully sealed. He said that each time the car is off, the door opens. Then, when the A/C operates - the door is activated.

Now getting to that part of the A/C system requires "major surgery" and sent me back to the dealer. Stay tuned my fellow Camaro buddies - this will get very interesting............
Very interesting. I had mine back at the dealership I bought it from and they checked it over and said it is operating as designed as well. I wondered about the air dampener door malfunctioning. Today it was right at 100 degrees and lower humidity than earlier this summer and mine was cooling at about 45 to 50 degrees on the 2 hour drive home. I guess I am just going to accept this is normal but will be anxious to hear what you find and how invasive the process is to fix the door. They said mine was beyond the BCM update and didn't require it. I'm not sure what they did though because on the trip over to the dealership it would only cool to about 55 degrees from the vents. It felt cooler on the way home so I'm happier at this point.

And that high 50 degrees is what you are feeling...
Im glad the tech went that extra mile for you. Once this is all said and done and everything worked out, id go to the techs manager and give him Kudos.
Couldn't hurt.

In the meantime......

So that should be damn near instant?
The reason for this is simply air flow....Air needs to be moving through the ac core up front near the rad...
Air flow must occur. City driving and you will have less air flow...
And as another poster commented. The refrigerant used these days has different characteristics of refrigerant of old...Not much but some....

Mine also is less than "good"...haven't had the dealer check it yet but it seems to blow less than cold air, I'd call it cool. But my '07 Impala frosts my windshield in the summer.
