The rep from Onstar said they can detect elevated voices in the vehicles.
So this guy removed the fuse to his onstar and cancelled it.
I don't want anyone invading my privacy in my own cars either.

No he didn't. This is not true. Completely. The person who told you this story made it up, and in fact EVERY single story you ever hear of OnStar "just calling you" because of speeding or whatever is a lie. There have been multiple posts on this here and in other forums. Not ONE person could give a firsthand account of it happening. Every one said "my friend told me, my cousin told me", etc.

Now you may say "but theres a video of this". There is! Its a Hennessey supercharged Cadillac CTSV thats around 800 HP that accelerates so hard that the car's systems believed it was being rearended. This was confirmed.

Unfortunately OnStar turns into these heated discussions. I personally like and use it and see no need to disable it, and also I'd advise against it as it will affect your car's resale value some day.

That said, should you disconnect the box you will not lose XM Radio, however if you unplug the antenna at the antenna side you will so you should leave that plug there and just remove the box. You will lose Bluetooth phone call functionality though, but to regain that there is a product called CoStar that replaces your OnStar box. Its discussed in the audio forums here if you do a search.

If you ever think you may use it again, just shut the service off. They don't care about you and they aren't listening or watching, no offense you're just not that important in the grand scheme of things.

Why would they need OnStar to keep track of you, have you ever seen the show "Person of Interest"? The government already has a giant computer watching all the cameras set up everywhere and listening to every cell phone conversation. Even those cameras in the Walmart parking lot, now try to disable all of them.

Just cancel the service if you don't like it and don't want to pay for it.

For the umpteenth time. They do not listen in, and can not unless prompted by a button push or crash sensor..... or with permission and oversight by law enforcement holding a valid warrant. That is all spelled out in the terms of service. Anyone saying their conversations were listened to and OnStar intervened are full of it. If you want to disable the system, it will disable your bluetooth as it is in the module. Disabling OnStar will not interfere with the XM unless you interfere with the antenna itself as it works for both systems.

Besides think about the size of the computer memory they would need to track every car that is OnStar equipped.
lol...I kind of jumped on the "anti-ON-star" band-wagon myself a while back...Just thought it was kind of bush-league that they wanted you to pay for something that they were gonna keep doing anyway once you canceled!..lol
I put there "data" collection in the same category as telemarketers and junk mail....wasn't gonna do their marketing research for free, and then have them want me to pay them a subscription fee to do the same thing!..lol

And the whole idea of "I don't care how much they watch or know about me..I'm not doing anything illegal"...that's an awefully slippery slope, and just what they like to hear...especially if you are paying them to do it!...lol

THIS.

Do you know what a vast amount of money-- time-- resources-- it would cost for OnStar to monitor conversations in everyone's car that has it? Come on. You really think they care? They don't.

Maybe they will, if there's enough demand for it!...(All for an extra fee, of course!)...lol

Second reason: Every time i use the directions feature on the car, it gets me lost.

Third reason is: with 3 vehicles that have it, it's costing me plenty. That's one bill i can do without right now.

I want it totally disabled for the reason that i don't want big brother knowing where i am or what i'm saying. It's none of anybody's business but mine.

Onstar called your buddy due to probably slamming on the brakes and triggering an accident sensor. They do not and cannot hear you talking unless you have an active open line.
Activated by you or by them.

Yeah? but tell on you doing what? Breaking the speed limit??

Think the Lingenfelter guys had to disable onstar in order to break the 200mph barrier?

Did OnStar come on and say:

"Hello, this Rajanikant from OnStar. You can call me Bob for short. We really appreciate your business and we are contacting you because we noticed that your car is travelling at a high rate of speed. As you know, the speed limit for your state is 60mph and your car is stating you are travelling at 202mph.

At Onstar, we value you as a customer and your safety and satisfaction is our #1 goal.. We'll now be shutting off your car and sending you a brochure about your new driving school."

...lol.....
