Was pulled over the other day going 54 in a 45. I'm 18 and have never gotten a ticket for anything before. It looks like 3+ points will be added to my insurance and the cost is 134$ which isn't too bad but I'm worried about those points. How high will my insurance go?

Take the safe driving class because this was your first ticket and a lawyer can get it dismissed with a certificate from a safe driving course......i speak from experience bro.

Yes, a class should keep it off your record. You don't want those points on there, especially at your age and especially with this kind of car. You can take one of the online classes or go to one in person.

My advise is to always go to court, if your record is clear you may get Probation before judgement, or get it reduced.

Damn! You've been driving for a whole 2 years (maybe a tad more) and have only had one ticket? Amazing!

Yeah - take the class if available. Otherwise, the insurance will kill you.

Some insurance companies forgive one moving violation.

I got a rate hike once for having tickets and it went from 360 to 600 so I had to change my coverage for a while. That was a 2 car policy though and I had an accident on my record too. If they jack your rate up you can probably expect around a 20% increase.

The insurance companies don't know about the violations unless underwriting does an evaluation. Don't be late on a payment, that gives them a reason to re-evaluate you.

Your rates can not change until your current 6 months are up for renewal.

Get another insurance company if you have to.

Always go to court for a driving ticket. First, if the officer doesn't show up, they dismiss it entirely. If your record is clean they usually dismiss it. Always ask for the latest calibration certificate and when he/she last checked the radar unit for accuracy. That usually gets rid of 50% of the officers tickets.

Last, if you have a good excuse, "my steering wheel was upside down" was mine, got me off.

First ticket? Take the class, pay the fine, learn the lesson and move on. I wouldn't go to court and take the chance of losing the case if the driving class is an available option.

Don't use you driving school option when you're so young. Just go to court, plead no contest, pay court fees(ticket fine), and have adjudication withheld with no points. This is coming from another Florida driver who has done it several times in several different counties.

actually, your insurance wont go up much at all. being 18 they're already charging you the highest rates. rates equal to a driver with a few tickets. the biggest difference with rates for young drives is you essential pay like you had a few tickets before you actually have them. kind of like accident forgiveness in reverse. to give you a real world example. I'm 42 and have a near perfect record. when I added my kids to my insurance when they started driving my premium basically doubled. my youngest got in an at fault accident that resulted in her getting a ticket for improper lane change. insurance went up less than $10 a month. she then got a speeding ticket about a year later (still under 20, driving less than 2 years) and my insurance went up so little I didn't even notice it. she hadn't told me. oh, and that's through GEICO, who are pretty hard on infractions.
