AC compressor bad or just the o-rings?

Well it's been cold out recently so I haven't been running the AC. Today I turned it on because it was warm out and I can hear the AC hissing from the dash. My knowledge tells me this is a low freeon issue and I can feel the AC isn't that cold. I pop the hood and see the compressor is barely staying on. I look at the AC lines going into the compressor and see it's leaking. I'm wondering if I should replace the entire compressor or if I can get away with just replacing the o-rings?
Thoughts?

O Rings only. Put a little oil in it as well to replace what has leaked out

Replaced them today and had a shop vac and charge. I'm wondering why this failed at 45k miles.

Isn't Texas famous for, "It's hot, but it's a dry heat."?
That, plus the BS, "We have to make parts out of cornstarch to save the environment."

Yeah I guess. Just sucks. I am hoping the shop added enough freon. I heard the compressor cycling more than I remember it prior.
