Don't forget that the V6 models were supposed to be pulled off the lot for a voluntary recall because of possible emissions issues. Do not know if that has been fixed yet or not

I don't think Chevrolet corporate level is as interested in selling Camaros as they once were. When was the last time you saw a commercial for one? They are "enabling" poor sales and it fits their plan to eventually phase out the line in favor of high volume/high profit SUVs and pickups. If the vehicle isn't in inventory, if it isn't being advertised, there is little visibility and that results in reduced demand. That justifies phase out and movement to another vehicle with a higher profit margin. Just my thoughts, but I don't think there is an advocate/champion at corporate level that is pushing Camaro to be a success any longer.

The Chevy dealer in my hometown has ZERO Camaros in inventory (and this is a pretty decently sized town).
However, the place we live in now has 3 Chevy dealers and camaros sell around here so the dealers are overstocked on them. Have every trim/model available.1SS,2SS, Sunroof or No Sunroof they have them ALL. EDIT: I lied there are 7 Chevy dealers within a 40-mile radius of us, so we have quite the selection here. EDIT again: After further investigation, it seems that we have 10+ Chevy dealers within a 60-mile radius so we have a HUGE selection of Camaros to choose from, so we don't have the small selection of Camaro's here.

I thought only 2,000 V6 models were affected and most of those vehicles (at the time) were in dealer inventory or in-transit to the perspective dealerships. They still don't know how many were actually sold to customers.

I stopped by my local dealer last week looking at the trucks. When the 5th gen was out the entire front row against the street was Camaro's. It was a sight to see every day driving buy. I had to buy one. They had maybe 1-2 ss's I looked at and a few others. I was a bit shocked. Mostly trucks now.

Additionally, the planning by GM could put some of their brands in serious trouble. Brands such as Cadillac, and Buick could be in peril. They may catch a few leftover sales in the crossover market, but Buick and Cadillac were once defined by luxurious and attractive sedans. Once the crossover trend cools down, these two makers will be left without their prime market products. Buick foolishly abandoned their sedans, and unfortunately their crossovers are pleasant but not market leaders. A downturn in the crossover market would kill Buick if they are left without sedans. I am not quite sure what is going on with GM, but it appears that they are in a leadership crisis, and have lost sense of how the automotive market works.

Since Scott Settlemire retired, it appears the Camaro focus groups have been disbanded. Scott was an active, ardent, and vocal marketing force for the Camaro. His retirement left a void that no one has stepped forward and filled. I don't think anyone in the engineering departments of GM truly has a passion for cars and performance; they apparent focus is "bottom line profits" and they forget how to achieve market share through public excitement with a product. Sometimes I yearn for the marketing days of the mid-60s and early-70s!

^The sixties and seventies were eras that defined automotive character. Advertising, styling, features were far more robust and exciting. There was a car for almost everyone. The feeling from those days have been absent for decades; Today's car market is about as bad as anyone could imagine; No feeling, no character, an absence of style, and no excitement. Once again I say, that 2011 was the closest that Chevrolet came (in recent times) to replicate the days of the sixties with the resurgence of Camaro, and several themes taking flight.

I think the Alpha platform was more important to Cadillac for GM than the Camaro. They just shared it with the Camaro to spread out development costs. When the tooling became fully amortized, they no longer needed to advertise the Camaro. In other words, the Camaro is not as important to them as it once was. It's like the 4th gen F-body days all over again. GM is making the same mistakes again for easy profits on CUV's/SUV's and trucks. Ugh!
