Conversion Tremec TKO 600 for 1978 Camaro

Guys have any of you already done this or has someone in 2 gen. Camaro?
I probably need help with choosing some components.

In the end, it's not a TKO but an improved TKX.
It's already on its way. It will break out in a few months.
With this transmission, it will be quite a comparable car to the 2010 SS LS3

Don't forget to dial in the bell housing. Needs to be very close to perfect. The best way to re-align it is with the Lakewood adjustable pins in the block. More money than the simple pins but worth the cost. You WILL have to rotate or reposition them 2 times before getting it centered in and then locked down. I know I had to do it twice.

But it's poorly designed when it has to be bellhousing taken off.
Now I'm missing a tiny piece to tolerance and it's clear to me that I'll take it off and reach for it, so I'll throw it all away again

Looking REALLY GOOD George! I read your post in the other thread and saw you now have a 383. Excellent move. I know the LS swaps are popular but the 383 is IMO a great way to go for power and ease of installation. I bet it will be a blast (and a handful) with the manual transmission.

Swap LS is not even possible here.
Here in Europe and the European Union, the regulations are so strict that it is almost a dictatorship.


My 1978 Camaro has registration and historic vehicle status. So basically I can only use period parts. TKX alone instead of Muncie or T10 Borg Warner isn't quite right. But since the transmission is deep inside the car and the only indicator is 5th gear on the gear ball - otherwise everything is built to original condition, so there shouldn't be a problem.


But you deserve credit, American boys


A 45-year-old car, aftermarket parts a few weeks old, and everything fits exactly to the millimeter. And I am absolutely fascinated by the stiffness of the shift return spring.
It's so "boyish" and nice old school!


I'm still waiting for an aluminum cardan with the correct length to arrive sometime at the end of September and I'll try how the car wakes up. I expect a very big change compared to the TH350.

I used .007 pins and I'm under half of the given 0.005-inch tolerance.
I am at zero in the horizontal axis and five hundredths of a millimeter in the vertical.
