Working on this now. Finally have all the parts in hand and the hole cut in the hood. I just need to decide if I want to paint the hood black or leave it silver and just put it together. Been PMing with Rich a few times and just need to get it done.
The biggest issue was getting the vinyl stripes off the car in case I was going to paint it. What a fun way to spend 5 hours, never again.....

Well, I got it all done this weekend. Pretty much installed it the same as Rich. I have added a few pictures as by now everyone has seen the install of this several times.
A few things I did different was, I used short self tapping sheet metal screws to hold the plate to the hood instead of rivets. That's what I had handy and they worked quick and easy. I also purchased the hood liner for a 2014 SS so I didn't have to cut my factory liner. The one major thing that I haven't seen mentioned is that I used 3M high bond tape to attach the extractor to the outside of the hood. It held it in place when I flipped the hood over and also made the metal conform to the hood without any additional supports under the hood. Rich, it worked great, you are a genius and thanks for the help.

You did a real nice job, the only thing i think that still needs to be done, IMO is to roll the hood so the scoop sits flush with the hood, i know this can be done, we do it when we weld in panels on older cars that need to get work on.

A little late to the game but.... Run some beads through that aluminum and it will absolutely become rigid. There are several ways the DIYer can run beads. With the hood blanket covering the piece, even a ball peen hammer and some wood would work. Or, if you're a tool guy, you can pick up a manual bead roller from Harbor Freight that would work, after a few passes.
If anyone is in the D/FW area, you're more than welcome to use my highly modified and powered bead roller, no charge if you do it yourself. Great looking piece, well executed. Thanks for the information. |

That's why I used a thicker sheet of aluminum, not the thin sheets from the local home center. Once it's riveted down it's plenty strong. Thanks for the input though. For those asking for a template, I've been really busy at work and dealing with personal issues lately. My goal will be to make a CAD drawing and post it here. Not sure when that can happen at the moment though, Sorry.

You'd be surprised at the amount of requests I get. I've made several tracings of the part I made and mailed them off to fellow members. This part works really well and you can't tell it's not factory when done right.
So I suspect you're not really waiting, just being sarcastic. I too like sarcasm and a good dry sense of humor. Thanks,
