Audio System - Subwoofer MTX from GM

I'm looking to beef up the factory sound without going through to much crap with dealing with installers. Has anyone ordered and installed this or had installed from a dealer? If so how does it sound?

There are many reviews on this product and I believe they are all favorable. I believe the worst part of the install is drilling the holes to mount the assembly.

My opinion is for the price of this unit you can do much better with a ******** enclosure, a sub and amp. With the battery being in the trunk it is actually pretty easy to install a sub. I would recommend taking the money you would spend on the GM enclosure and using that to put together a different solution.
Cheers

Thanks Moriartii
I've had some kick ass systems in the past (everything aftermarket of course).
I just don't want to alter or overpower the exisiting factory audio.
I'll look into a ******** enclosure and see what my other options are.
Thanks for the advice!!!

that's the route I'm taking. I know you can probably get more for the money, but it will definately do the job and it is all built to work together. I'm not looking to win any competitions, just add some low end.

I installed the subthumb box and amp rack myself and it worked out well and was much cheaper than the MTX solution. On the plus side my trunk was still usable (important since the SS was my only car) and it wasn't horribly overpowering. It was good clean bass.

Had mine installed from the dealer (MTX). It sounds pretty good. I didn`t want anyone tearing up the car later to install an aftermarket setup. As an older guy, I`m looking for quality sound, not to bass bounce down the road.

Bottom line, if you have the bucks, go for it. Just my two cents.

I installed the ******** inclosure with a package from crutchfield and couldn't be happier. The install took a lot of time but was painless. If you do it yourself you have to get the plug and play harness from ********, its worth every penny.

I bought the MTX sub, never installed ANYTHING before myself, had NO clue what I was doing, but it was easy to do. And yes, the drilling of the holes to mount the sucker, for me, was by far the worst part. wiring, and everything else was simple. I like the easy access to the built in amp- the sound is more bass than I need, but I wasn't looking for a super thumping system. Overall, a nice improvement. For the money, you could do better, but for me, it was perfect.

I did the MTX sub too. Pretty much a plug and play, really improved the system. I did disconnect the center speaker on the dash. For a stock system I am very impressed.
