That is because it is the 2010 model. Has nothing to do with the build date.

Typically a year model will be released for sale around June-July-Aug the previous year.

I bought my 2011 in July of 2010. The 2012's will be released for sale around July-Aug of 2011.

I am not Necessarily a fan of this, due to the acceptable mileage standard. If you buy a 2010 in July of 2009, by July 2010 it is a New model car with near 15,000 miles, while someone who bought a 2010 in June of 2010 has a 2010 with 45 miles. That makes your 2010 look like it is high mileage car. In 2010 or 2011 that does not matter much, but on the trade in value when you get to say 2016, they do not look at purchase dates, you have a 2010 Camaro with 15,000 miles more than a 2010 should have.

Thanks for that. In the UK we have age related number plates, changed every six months, denoting when the car was registered, which remedies the problem you stated with the mileage per year.

Here trade in and resale values for Used cars are based on the bluebook values, which is model year and mileage plus a few other things. Used car lots tend to trade cars back and forth to fulfill customers needs.

I doubt seriously in the US that a Used car lot goes back to see the date the car was originally purchased to evaluate the sale price based on mileage. It is pretty much Model Year/Condition/Mileage/Accessories = price.

I agree that the 2012 model year will probably go back to your typical release of late Summer since they'll need a decent run of 2011 convertibles for profitability sake. I orginally thought they start 2012 model year early to coincide the convertible release. Sounds like this will be the intro of the Z-28 instead.

Never even thought of that factor, but so true! I guess rip off pricing up here is a good thing... since they do sales at year end which then makes a car comparable in price to that in the states. So as a result it would be low mileage model year.

You can't release a new car with the same model year as the calender year, I don't know why that rule exists, but it does. However, you can continue building cars introduced the year before (like 2010 Camaro's being built in May 2010) for quite a while, though I think there is still a cutoff date sometime in the fall where they have to switch to producing the next model year. All this leads to strange things like having 15 month long model years for some, and 9 months for others.

The new model change over at the plant I believe happens around June. Usually the changes are announced much earlier.
