OEM GM SS Front Cladding (GFX) requires front rivets

Thanks for posting the GM instructions for GFX mounting.

I now see when the dealer installed my 2010 "Camaro SS Front Cladding" they failed to install the four rivets shown on sheet 12 of 50.

I was driving my two-day old 2010 SS/RS today and the very tip of the front spoiler dropped from the car. It was only being held by the two wheel well bolts and the eight push-pins. I noticed the double-sided tape across the front had not adhered properly.

I thought the SS Front Cladding (GFX) was a little heavy to just be held in place with double-stick tape, so these instructions solved the mystery. Four pop rivets are missing.

Per the GM instructions, it seems only the SS front cladding requires rivets. The rivets are difficult to install, the entire front fascia needs to be removed in order to install the rivets.

I hope my experience helps someone else.

Looks good, but word of warning for anyone who may be using this... The torques are listed in inLbs not FtLbs [pound force inches, not pound force feet]. These are very low values, if you try to apply it as Lbf Ft / FtLbs you will most likely damage material and/or snap fasteners. It is literally a factor of 12 different between the two. If available and capable it is always recommended to reference the Nm (Newton Meter) Values Given.

I wish my dealer would have taken the time to read that... mine went to the dealer 4 times before they even tried to fix thier sorry installation. The front and rear peices were literally falling off. They finally took a crack at it, and it is better now.... but the fit still isn't what is expected to be a factory fit.

and for $2200, you should expect better...

if you can find an aftermarket kit that you like, get it instead.

end rant

Due to my front spoiler coming off after 200 miles I have done quite a bit of investigating with the help of Camaro5. Take note that the original "SS Factory Front Spoiler" in the August 17 DIY has been replaced by a SS Service Spoiler and you can find the pdf in one of the posts located here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78097&page=2

The major distinction is, the original GM factory SS Front Spoiler uses four rivets to secure the front lip whereas this new GM Service Front Spoiler uses two plastic brackets secured by 13 rivets. You need to remove the front fascia to install the original factory SS front spoiler and you do not remove the front fascia to install the SS Service Factory Spoiler.

I uploaded photos to show the new revised SS Front Spoiler installation process on my 2SS/RS. Just follow the GM instructions included in the kit. Tape the plastic brackets to the front fascia, drill holes and secure using aluminum pop-rivets in the kit. Be very careful to align the tip of the passenger side bracket to the very tip of the fascia nose to insure the spoiler will align properly. Remove the tape and snap off the alignment tabs per the instructions. After this, the front spoiler snaps into the plastic brackets. IMO this is a very secure mounting system. Thanks GM!

No, just the GM rear GFX with the stock SS exhaust tips.

Why is the abbreviation for Graphics being used for Ground Effects?

Graphics = GFX

See the Also.

Some where someone decided it stood for Ground Effects and it is misused on many sites.

As 10_SS mentions above, the service front lip is revised and more bullet proof. I just did the install this weekend. The install is a bit nervous if you do not perform this sort of work. The lip is also cumbersome to get over those brackets. Take some time and massage the back side of the lip engagement edge outwards so that its not wavy and tucked under. That will save a bunch of muscling and digging around with a screw driver cautiously

Here is a pic of the backside of the bumper cover showing all the rivets down low

I opted to install the lip with the cover on the car, then take the cover off to do the Heritage brille

am i reading this correctly that the GFX is an irreversible install? it appears that if you take it off, you are going to have holes in at least the fascia, if not other places?
