Chevy making progress on 2013 car (NASCAR)

Hmmm could it be, Camaro ? I guess never say never !!!

Chevy making progress on 2013 car

Though Chevrolet isn't ready to reveal the model it plans to run in the Sprint Cup Series in 2013, Jim Campbell, Chevrolet's vice president for performance vehicles and motorsports, says the design phase for the new car is progressing nicely.

"The 2013 Chevrolet entry for NASCAR Cup is on track," Campbell told Sporting News on Saturday. "We've had just a tremendous experience working with NASCAR and other OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] to make sure we're all heading in the right direction in terms of the rule set.

"And there's also a lot of great collaboration between our team at Chevrolet and Chevrolet design, as well as NASCAR, in making sure the car is really much in terms of how it looks to what we sell in the [showroom]."

Campbell said Chevy has developed a recommendation to submit to NASCAR as to which model it would like to race starting in 2013 but isn't ready to announce the selection.

"NASCAR is fully aware of it," Campbell said. "They've had a chance to see it. I can't reveal it at this point, but I'm very excited about where it's going and the ability to make a strong connection between what we race on the track here in the Cup Series and what we sell on the showroom floor."

Chevrolet currently runs the Impala SS in the Cup and Nationwide series.

Does it matter now that NASCAR runs the COT the only difference between the manufacturers are the stickers they apply to the car to make it resemble their respective car. It might as well be the Chevy Unicorn, but my guess is Chevy is hard at work printing Malibu stickers for their 2013 COT

Or maybe it's the Volt... "Yeah DW we really had a chance to run good today.. Led some laps and looked good for the sponsors until the battery died on lap 89."

Well the battery would not die because the small engine would kick in to keep the battery charged.....

Just because it says Impala or Camaro doesn't mean it actually is. These cars share nothing with the cars actually produced for the street.

Anyone know why they don't use the Camaro for the Nationwide Series? It would make more sense than the Impala. Ford and Dodge use the Mustang and Challenger. (Hell, even Toyota uses their sportiest car...hahaha).

Not quite. The electric motor has 140+ hp, and the engine has something closer to 80 hp. Wouldn't work for anything other than short, intermittent bursts of speed.

Because GM doesn't want a COT with the Camaro name on it simply because it wouldn't represent a Camaro.

I mean, have you seen the Mustang and Challenger "stock cars?"
