Hmm. Unfortunately I may- just maybe- need to make a change in vehicles. A jeep would certainly address a lot of my needs extremely well. But I do so like my car.

they hold there value like a rock so they are a decent investment as cars go new.

Steve McQueen liked his Jeep. So that's OK.

I bought a 2015 Wrangler Sport about a year ago on a whim. I had just sold a couple of my cars and ordered a Porsche Macan which was going to take 4 to 5 months to arrive. One Saturday morning I was reading the paper over coffee and saw an add for the Jeep. The advertised price was very low for the base model and I thought I would take a look and if I liked it I would buy one to use while we wait for the Macan and sell it latter. Our local Jeep dealer just got one delivered and we took it for a test drive. Both my wife and I loved it and bought it on the spot. It is very basic; roll up windows, soft top, 6M. So different from the Porsche and 2SS and that is its' charm.

Great vehicle in the winter, turns on a dime, and topless fun on nice days. It has been very reliable only needing an oil change over the last year. We removed the rear seats and bought a cargo mat for the 4 door which fit perfectly in the back without the rear seats. So now it is a 2 seater. We have a blast in it which is why we kept it.

If this was going to be my only vehicle I would go up several trim levels and choose the unlimited (4 door) as it would ride better (longer wheel base) and have more creature comforts. To be honest, I'm not sure a Jeep Wrangler, regardless of trim level, would be my choice if I could only have one vehicle. I love it for what it is and how we use it, same as all my other vehicles.

Hmmm. My Camaro is saying "get rid of me" in a louder and louder voice. It's wise to listen to the car.

4 door is simply a no-go for me. Waayyy to much money for what is offered in my opinion; the 2 doors only touch upon reality re: price. Plus the 4 door is just too damn big for where I go.

I'll drive a Willys Wheeler W and see what's what; this is the model that seems to fit my needs best. It also has the higher numeric gearing. I'm liking the rear seat delete and hardtop combo idea, especially with a few options for the cargo area. Harsh ride...well I have owned and driven much worse. I'm not looking for a luxury vehicle.

I'm looking for a vehicle that I can like, has a fun factor, has a manual trans, and is something I will not fret about. I've spent 27 years fretting about my cool performance cars. New England just is not conducive to the habit. Sucks but life priorities change and I no longer feel the urge to even go wash the car. I'll put up with a lot if I like the vehicle.

I am with you, wife got the jeep last month 2 door. But I wanted one also and may steal hers in few years. It is definitely a better vehicle for the north east and will be easier to live with as a daily driver.

I now have 6500 miles on mine in barely 4 months and I've been driving through flood water and flat dragging vehicles with it for the last three days while pulling my trailer with me everywhere I go. I still love mine. Lol.

Interesting thing-

I read reviews that say 'don't buy any Jeep'. I talk to people that do not own one and they tell me the same thing.

Then I ask people online that have them, and they love them and have no complaints. Three people at work have them, they love them and have no complaints. I have stopped people I do not know, who are driving the damned things down the road and hit the brakes for an insane man yelling "hey man stop a minute", and they love them and have no complaints.

The Chrysler lineup is doing poorly in reliability ratings, which is likely behind a lot of the hating.

That said - I wouldn't personally own one but can certainly understand their appeal, especially in the NE where weather can be rather sloppy. Dollar for dollar, as a daily driver, I'd probably go with an all wheel drive CUV or SUV. Both for ride comfort/quality and better gas mileage.

To drive a Jeep prior to 2006, you had to love a Jeep. The ride was mediocre, stuff breaks, but they are super fun. I think reliability is at least fair on the newer ones. I would and definitely will own another one.

What I can find is that specifically the previous engines were poor, but the new V6 is good.

1997-2006, the 4.0 I6 was bulletproof. 2007-2011, the 3.8 was a dog. 2012-current, the 3.6 has adequate power.

The 3.8 is pretty reliable just way under powered.

That's why if I get one I am getting the highest numeric gear ratio
