Are those the Kooks "green" GESI version, or their standard high flows?

The standard cats. I have had them off a few times to inspect. I think they will last just as well as oem cats if the car is tuned correctly.

Good news. I just picked up a set of the green cats and Ted updated my tune. I'm hoping they will hold up for a long time. Your experience gives me some confidence- especially at your power level (I'm a good 40-50 less.) Thanks for the response.

My dynotech Supermaxx cats finally started to give out. 40-50 passes at the drag strip and 6k miles. Guess I’m gonna have to do something else now. I’m just above 650 rwhp.

Mine looked like that after the first track day (which involves a couple hundred WOT pulls). I replaced them with delete pipes and now sleep better at night.

Dynatech will replace these under warranty if still in the time frame.

They are constantly improving on the product as problems arise.

Ted.

Ted,
What do you attribute the cat failures are due to? I would imagine since Dynatech made them specifically for supercharged applications, it would come down to a tune issue??

My Kooks green cats started to collapse (not that bad) when I was around the same hp level. Repeated WOT blasts and high boost levels will do that; regardless of the tune. Some take longer that others to collapse. It's good to see them stand behind their product. If you plan on adding hp, I would honestly look at switching to an off road pipe if you can.

We can not just suggest it is the tune.

Misfire is the single biggest killer of cats the more we turn up the power the more chance of misfire.

EGT is probably second on the list.

2 things affect EGT in the pipes, Timing and AFR

Low timing raises EGT, as well as Lean AFR

Many people try to run too much boost for pump gas which forces them to run low timing.

Every tune we do we set AFR To .78 or 11.5 to Keep EGT under control.

Even if timing an AFR are perfect we still must introduce Cat Overtemp Protection fueling, this is where the computer calculates the EGT and starts to add fuel to cool the cats.

Unfortunately many tuners will turn off COT to make more power but this will sacrifice the cats for sure.

Then there is the situation where people are running too small an injector for the power level, this is why anything over our 75 RWHP package gets ID1050X injectors.

I can't tell you how many people are running a 2.55 pulley (18%) with stock injectors, Bad Idea.

If the injectors are on the edge there is no room for the adding of COT fueling.

Then there is just shear HP.

Hope this sheds some light on the problem

Hello everyone

What happens to our exhaust front to back and then add a 75hp. Can the stock cats handle the additional hp? I know Ted explained in the tune how to help this out, but eventually would the stock ones fail?

Thanks,
Ed

Stock cats are much more resilient then any of the aftermarket offerings extremely rare to see one fail.

Ted.
