Is there history with blacking out the trunk?

...other than that's what was done on the 1st gen Camaro's. I see gloss black and flat black blackout panels. What about a carbon flash metallic? I will be installing CFM tail light bezels so that color will be carried all the way across the rear end.

When I went to the local body shop to get an estimate on fixing my rock chips, I asked about painting the bottom of my trunk. The price quoted was what I was hoping it would be. BUT the guy talked me out of blacking out the trunk because there will be a lip from the CFM paint. As long as its crisp and sharp, what is the big deal? Since the car is going in, I want to do this right with paint!!

When I was talking with my shop a while back about doing the same thing, he said the same thing that since the paint was in top of the other paint it would be a lip or you could feel the edge since its higher. I didn't care. But he did also say to easily fix it, they would clear coat the whole trunk so it's even.

back in the day, it signified a big block under the hood.

So is that what you did? Get it painted and then clear coat. Why didn't the guy I talked to suggest that? I'll ask about the clear coating. Thanks liquidsmoke.

Big block, or the highest trim level engine offered with that vehicle.

If your talking about the back panel where the bowtie is I used SLP's decal set. Matches my Black Rallys perfectly.

I "oranged" out my trunk...and "oranged" out my hood spears too. Hugger Orange on IOM looks a lot better than most folks thought it would.

Those side spears look really cool in silver hotrodsally. Not a color combination many would choose. It works!

Any pictures of the Hugger Orange trunk piece mhood?
