The Woodward Dream Cruise is August 16th. Don't be surprised if Lutz or some other GM exec is cruising in a production-spec Camaro.

I think that is what Autoblog was alluding to. Wonder if that is speculation on their part or sly inside info.

That really makes more sense, but you never know. I do know that GM loves the Dream Cruise. Sept at Indy is fine with me too.

More On Woodward Dream Cruise

"We guess we'll find out all the details for sure later this summer at the Woodward Dream Cruise if the rumors we've heard lately and the winks and nods we're hearing from GM PR are true."

I think GM would have a lot of ticked off people at INDY bash if they unveiled everything a week early. GM just says they are showing everytihng at INDY. Why now go and screw that up?

Now, a show for the GM employees where no pix are taken, but just like a quick sneak peak before the big unveil? Sure, I could believe that. But, an all out "here's what we got!"....uh, no. Not going to happen.

INDY bash it is.

Sounds like that website is just looking for some traffic....pretty sad.

I agree that it would be silly to do that after announcing the Indy Bash, however the Autoblog comment about looking for traffic is out of wack. They are one of the top auto sites on the internet. They honestly don't need to do something like that. Their inside info has been fairly accurate (when they do announce that that they have had direct contact with the manufacturer and not just posting things from other sites). However, anyone can be wrong and get bad info. If they didn't talk to the right people over at GM, it's possible they have things confused.

I've got a grand for that bet. Autoblog was recently purchased by the AOL group. It was independent for a long time. I've been reading it for years and years. They don't do their own I spy stuff, it's more a collection of others sites information with their own opinions and occasional reviews on product. They do have GM and other manufacturers invite them to events and have them review vehicles.

INDY. I agree with TAG - even though the Camaro will still be there, after making an announcement about the unveil at Indy and then turning around and jumping the gun a week early: there's going to be quite a few ticked off Camaro owners. And there ain't a fleet of Suburbans big enough to handle a crowd like that....

Yep. And I'll tell you this. If I had solid plans to go to INDY to see the UNVEIL of the Camaro and then found out that the unveil would be a weak early, I honestly would probably not go to INDY.

Some of you might say, "what??? Why not? Give me a break!"

My reasoning? It's because I would want to be a part of history. I would want to be there to see the real deal on the day right there before my very eyes.....like going to NAIAS to see the unveil of the concept Camaro. There is no replacing that.

So...if I hear the Camaro is unveiled and pictures start getting spread all over the internet...engine options are shown, trim levels shown, etc., then what the hell is the point of going to INDY????????????

Now...If this week early show is for GM execs ONLY, no pix are to be released, no options are to be announced, etc, I'd be completely cool with that. Otherwise, I'd be highly PISSED OFF that I was spending $700 for gas, hotel, food, etc, to be a part of history in the making only to find out that we were the afterthought.

Sorry...I'm just getting myself worked up here, but....I'm really thinking about going to INDY and the thought of spending all this money to go when I don't have it is tearing me up...but I'm thinking about it....and now this? Now, I REALLY doubt I'll be going!!! Better keep that week early reveal PRIVATE.

Here is where I think they might end up screwing Indy up. If there is press there, it's going to leak out. It does every time. Those press embargos are so worthless.

As a fan not going to Indy, but spending a lot on my next Z/28, I want info NOW. I want pics NOW. But that is the selfish prick 16 year old boy banging inside this 39 year old head.

I'm going but that isnt where the production 5th gen is being unveiled...unfortunately its being unveiled before the event...just had an rss feed on our local forum that said it was going to be unveiled at the indy meet but then posted an update...heres a direct quote

Quote:
UPDATE: We've contacted GM to inquire about the validity of this story, and they tell us that the production Camaro will not debut at this event. It will actually debut BEFORE then at a place TBD. Hmmm... what event takes place before September that would be an appropriate place to debut an iconic muscle car? If you'd all like to meet us at the Coney Island restaurant on Woodward Ave. the Thursday before the Dream Cruise, we'll buy you a coney.
