Race Scoop for CAI

For those of you that currently have one or have had one in the past or possibly even know someone that has one, is the race scoop worth the extra bit of money to add on for a CAI. I'm looking at purchasing a Cold Air Inductions intake and wanted to know if I should go ahead and purchase the scoop at the same time or just forget it and just buy the intake. I've seen the test JRE has done on all sorts of cold air intakes and I'm personally liking the Cold Air Inductions one. I won't be tracking the car or doing any road courses any time soon. Maybe in the future 1/4 runs will be done but not right now. Any input/opinions would be greatly appreciated

I just put one on and I would say its worth it. I can tell you if it made a difference by itself because i did it with a cam swap at the same time. Once you see it go in and the path of free air it opens you will be glad you did it. My car feels less sensitive to heat soak and the power does not fall off as much when it gets hot. Installation was easy also. For 60 bucks I would get it. I just removed the washer bottle and did not replace it.

I just bought a CAI and would have bought the scoop, however I'm going to track the car eventually and I'm planning on putting brake ducts in basically the same spot.

Why suck in hot engine bay air? It is not a real difficult install.

I think Apex Chase did a write up on this back in the day. You might search for him and some of the threads he started.

Yeah i heard the install isn't hard at all. I think I did read at one time about having to cut the inside of the wheel well flap? or the plastic underneath so that the scoop fits properly which wouldn't be overly difficult. And the install of the CAI takes even less time than the scoop and washer bottle relocate. I will have to look for that write up. Anyone have a preference in race scoop? I believe JRE carries the whole kit. Looks like phastek has one that is currently out of stock. And Maryland speed has the ADM scoop. I thought ADM didn't make those scoops anymore or went out of business? And second I'm not going to order from Maryland Speed after reading about the poor customer service and people receiving their items weeks and weeks later or not getting them at all.

Phastek may have those.

I installed mine with my VARARAM DRX. I can tell you that is going to benefit cause once you see the path you are opening...you know itll work. I installed it just with opening the wheel well and removing front tire. One bolt was a bitch so I used a tie wrap instead!

I suggest you use a small electric grinder to cut the plastic...very useful.

You can hear the air getting in at idle, similar to a supercharger lol.

I had one and it definitely made an improvement. If you can't or won't run an OTR intake (vararam or new era) then get the scoop

Thanks guys for the replies guys! Yeah I checked out the package on JRE and the scoop and the washer bottle relocate can be had as a kit for $160. The scoop by itself is like $55-$60 from what I'm seeing. Also, JRE states that there is an 8-10 rwhp increase on the dyno when being using with a high flow intake system.

Love mine, bringing fresh cold air to your air intake is never bad!

Go to phastekperformance.com they have a washer relocate and scoop for 105 I think I paid. I feel like its worth it, as others have stated it def brings some cooler moving air into the intake.

I used Tin snips to trim out the plastic - makes for a clean cut and then a little work with a file to clean it up.
